MWWPR is looking for a government affairs specialist to join our Federal Government Affairs practice. The ideal candidate is proactive and incredibly organized, with a proven track record of managing up and down on a complex line of business.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development, planning and execution of client federal relations strategies including legislative solutions and strategies to advance priority issues; oversee and track client deliverables
  • Proactively generate new ideas and opportunities to ensure client success; participate actively in government relations strategy sessions and brainstorms
  • Assist in developing content to drive advocacy and engagement with Congress, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders including briefing memos, talking points, letters, key messages, white papers, background documents, and presentations
  • Track federal legislative activity, including attendance at hearings, mark-ups, briefings, roundtables, and other congressional activities
  • Monitor White House and federal agency policy and regulatory developments
  • Represent the organization and our clients at meetings with stakeholders and coalitions
  • Monitor current national, political, and issue-specific trade publications to identify and provide client-relevant federal updates
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of clients’ businesses and the key issues that directly and indirectly affect them
  • Cultivate strong relationships with Congress, federal agencies, the White House, and NGOs
  • Coordinate meetings with members of Congress, congressional staff, federal agency, White House, and other relevant stakeholders
  • Proactively gather and share intelligence received from Capitol Hill, federal agencies, and the White House
  • Proofread internal and client documents for accuracy and quality
  • Provide counsel on tactical matters linked to client goals and objectives; anticipate client needs and prepare in advance

What you have to have:

  • At least 2 years of experience in federal government relations working in a Congressional office, federal agency, advocacy organization, or on a campaign.
  • Bachelor’s degree in political science or related field
  • Knowledge of healthcare and/or higher education issues a plus
  • Superior oral and written communication skills
  • Working knowledge of Congress, federal agencies, and the White House
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with all internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to maintain a professional, client-ready demeanor and presence; keep a high standard of etiquette in all communications and interactions
  • Demonstrated understanding of and affinity for digital tools and platforms (including social media)
  • Excellent project management capability; can execute against multiple tasks including events, meetings, issues management, material development, and briefings. Keeps account lead abreast of timelines, managing up to superiors to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Proven ability to think strategically, creatively, and proactively; exhibit a facility for problem solving and close attention to detail
  • Ability to “get smart quickly”- understand and learn different issues and sectors swiftly
  • Ability to prioritize multiple assignments and manage time in an organized manner while ensuring deadlines are met
  • Ability to travel as necessary contingent on client and new business needs (requirements vary)
