Zurich is currently seeking a Government & Regulatory Affairs Consultant to join the Government and Regulatory Affairs team out of our Washington, DC location.


Zurich’s North America Government & Regulatory Affairs unit is an integral component of the Group effort to implement Zurich’s strategic and tactical public policy objectives consistently across the enterprise and seeks to anticipate emerging trends, define and prioritize public policy issues and establish Zurich as a thought leader on identified issues.


At the direction of the VP, Federal Affairs, the candidate will be tasked with implementing strategic and tactical initiatives in support to the government affairs relations objectives including partnering with federal and state legislation, regulations and bulletins, and for monitoring relevant news and political developments that affect the Zurich organization.  The Consultant will also conduct policy and legislative research, prepare policy briefs, talking points, and executive briefings.  This role will also be tasked at coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, such as state and national trade associations, in providing comments on proposed legislation and regulations.


Other duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Anticipating customer needs by gathering information and monitoring trends in order to recommend changes to senior leadership
  • Establishing, building, and maintaining relationships with key personnel at relevant political organizations and external partners such as fundraisers, trade associations, and consultants
  • Working closely with Political Action Committee (PAC) Manager on the creation and management of the PAC budget, external and internal fundraising events, and compliance
  • Assisting with the drafting and submission of federal lobbying disclosures for the company and federal lobbyists at the direction of management
  • Assisting with the creation and posting of our social media and advocacy sites under the direction of management


Up to 20% of travel will be required for this role along with extended hours during peak periods.
Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Law or Political Science and 1 or more years of experience in the Advocacy or Public Policy area


  • High School Diploma or Equivalent in Law or Political Science and 5 or more years of experience in the Advocacy or Public Policy area


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local election laws and requirements
  • Experience working in government or political operations and/or corporate government affairs
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Demonstrated experience in building collaborative relationships with staff and peers
  • Demonstrated experience successfully applying independent discretion in a fast-paced environment
