Purpose of Position
This position will participate in and manage efforts related to Berkshire Hathaway’s federal and state policy efforts, with specific emphasis on business opportunities in geothermal expansion, lithium extraction, pumped storage, and other renewable investments. Monitor state and federal policy developments, assist in the preparation of documents, and engage in outreach to state legislatures, state agencies, and federal Congressional offices and agencies. Research issues including federal and state legislation, siting and permitting around new projects, workforce development, campaign finance and emerging trends in the energy and environment space. Provide guidance on state issues of importance to Berkshire Hathaway Energy’s operating companies, identifying key business experts and organizing their input for the purpose of responding to policy and project matters. Prepare and present company presentations to external audiences as required. Provide timely and appropriate responses to data requests and reports filed with state agencies, state legislature, Congress, and external stakeholders.


This position is also responsible for the monitoring and working in concert with operating company program and government relations staff as requested. Assist with administrative duties as assigned, providing support to the Washington, D.C. office manager. Assist the company political action committee managers in production and distribution of political action committee solicitations and supporting materials, and associated research.




Bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field; or equivalent work experience. (Typically six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess an associate’s degree.)

Two to four years of related work or internship experience.

Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills.Effective interpersonal skills and leadership abilities.

Effective analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Project management skills; ability to prioritize and handle multiple issues and projects concurrently.
