The Role

A2LA is seeking a detail-oriented professional to assist the Director of Government Relations in advancing and directing policies and objectives of the association involving local, state and federal government, and regulatory affairs. This person will be responsible for tracking and mining for legislation requiring A2LA’s response and proposing suggested actions and providing example template responses. This is an exceptional opportunity to improve public safety through regulation.

Responsibilities

  • Create campaign material like advocacy materials, policy arguments, talking points and white papers on key issues, legislation, and regulatory issues.
  • Identify congressional members or committees to target and schedule meetings with them to discuss the importance of accreditation and public safety.
  • Work with other departments in the implementation and execution of government and regulatory affairs in other programs.
  • Review, evaluate and monitor current, pending, and historical legislative actions.
  • Support information mining – observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources.
  • Track new legislation using FiscalNote and monitor the Federal Register, notifying individuals when necessary.
  • Inform other staff of upcoming legislation and other governmental rule-making.
  • Target A2LA’s members to support accreditation efforts.
  • Stay current in market trends through continuing education, memberships, and subscriptions to relevant organizations.
  • Oversee the maintenance of all government contacts in relevant databases.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.
Requirements

A2LA may provide exceptions to educational requirements for veterans who demonstrate the ability to perform the duties listed in this job posting.

A successful candidate for these positions typically meets the following criteria:

  • Bachelor’s degree in political science or related field
  • 5 years of experience with government affairs including meeting congressional offices and regulators
  • Proficient knowledge of the legislative process
  • Basic understanding of accreditation strongly preferred
  • Government relations experience in the infrastructure sector
  • Registered lobbyist

  • Physical DemandsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to walk; sit for long hours, use hands for typing; talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision for reviewing electronic and hard copy documents. Moderate lifting of up to 40 lbs. may be expected.
  • Work Environment: Work is typically performed in an office setting. Hours are flexible, but they should normally encompass at least the core hours of 9:00AM to 3:00PM, total at least forty (40) hours for each work week, and suit the needs of various training clients, where appropriate.
