TCS North America is hiring a Government Relations Specialist focused on education programs and policy for its Corporate Social Responsibility function. The role will be responsible for growing, maintaining, and promoting effective community and intergovernmental relationships with local and state governmental agencies, elected and appointed officials, and business and community groups. The Government Relations Specialist will also spearhead, develop, and manage cross sector partnerships with focus on increasing access, equity, and inclusion to opportunities.
Government and Community Affairs
Works with corporate government relations function to develop relationships with local and state officials and their staff.
Works with corporate government relations function to develop relationships with federal officials and their staff on TCS’ federal advocacy to promote STEM education.
Assists in coordinating activities with government representatives, outside agencies and organizations. Educates key audiences about TCS’ position on K-12 education issues.
Maximizes relationships with public and elected officials, staff, and government agencies to enhance recognition and policy objectives related to 21st century career relevance in K-12 education systems.
Works closely with CSR program team, communications, and marketing staff to ensure effective implementation of activities related to the specific portfolio of issues assigned.
Serves as primary field consultant for local policy advocacy activities related to the assigned issues portfolio.
Regularly liaises with corporate government relations function to ensure efforts are complimentary to overall government relations program.
Policy Research and Influence
Researches and tracks federal and state legislation and regulations and local government and community activities; and performs related duties as assigned.
Stays current regarding ongoing legislative actions related to TCS’s mission and programming.
Identifies local education policy priorities in key markets.
Conducts research on certain priority topics including key issues surrounding current and upcoming programming.
Assesses political positions and formulates suggested strategies for discussion with CSR & GR leaders; prepares talking points on legislative and regulatory proposals.
Communications and Representation
Represents TCS at internal and external CSR events and disseminates information about TCS STEM programs.
Liaises with government officials, NGO representatives and community members to increase TCS’ brand footprint.
Provides expertise on key policy issues related to TCS’ agenda through briefings of key officials and other relevant actors, and participation in working groups, conferences, and roundtable events.

Minimum of 6 – 10 years’ experience in community engagement and government relations.
Experience working within a government office/agency desired.
Understanding of government relations, public policy, political process, social movements, marketing principles.
Demonstrated event and program planning preferably with a record of hig h impact events, policy interaction, and experience working directly with legislation.
Experience managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced and matrix environment.
Excellent communication skills (oral and written), including cross-cultural skills, media skills, and the ability to deal with counterparts at all levels of society and politics.
Experience in regulation, legislation, public policy and/or government affairs preferred.
Experience working on issues pertinent to K-12 education, STEM/computer science education preferred.
Eagerness to travel across the United States and Canada (anticipated up to 30% travel when travel resumes).
