The International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) is the nation’s premiere fire service organization. For the past 148 years, the IAFC has provided leadership, education and support to chief fire officers and emergency services managers. Today, the IAFC is leading the way with initiatives in both Congress and the Executive Branch, including the White House, to promote the needs of fire-based emergency medical services; support America’s volunteer firefighters; and protect local communities from the emerging wildland fire problem. We are looking for a highly motivated, public service-minded individual to serve as a Government Relations Manager at our headquarters office in Chantilly, VA.

Key responsibilities for this position include monitoring pertinent federal legislative and regulatory activities that impact the fire service; developing strategies, position papers and Congressional testimony; making the association’s views known to legislators, policymakers, and regulators at all levels of the federal government; and covering public and media activities relating to key fire service legislative and regulatory issues. The GR Manager also will communicate government relations activities to IAFC members and serve as staff liaison to the relevant committees/sections.

Qualified candidates must possess a BA/BS degree in Political Science, Pubic Administration, Communications, or a related field. Three to five years’ government relations experience, including knowledge of Capitol Hill, and first-hand experience dealing with federal agencies and policymakers is required. Skills critical to this position include strong written and oral communications, financial management, and organizational and computer proficiency. In addition, qualified candidates must be able to work in a fast-paced, goal-oriented environment as part of a team that is focused on achieving results.
