Criterion is seeking a Government Relations Manager to mature and extend Criterion’s government relations program by putting in place processes to identify and implement key Federal public policy initiatives; serving as the liaison to Members of Congress, the Administration, and industry associations; and working closely with Criterion’s Strategy and Corporate Development organization to develop and maintain needed tools and materials.

Responsibilities

Elements Of the Role Include:

  • Work with Criterion’s senior leaders to understand the company’s point-of-view on public policy
  • Manage long-term and time-sensitive government relations projects and programs
  • Help analyze proposed legislative actions and determine the potential risk/opportunity impact on the organization
  • Represent Criterion with Members of Congress, the Administration, and other governmental agencies, including maintaining existing relationships and forming strategically important new ones
  • Develop and maintain tools and materials designed to support government relations efforts in coordination with Criterion’s business development, marketing, and communications functions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Planning and Implementation – Work with the senior leadership team to develop and maintain a strategic plan to support the company’s long- and short-term goals. Strong project management skills are key.
  • Policy /Legislative/Regulatory analysis – Keep your fingers on the pulse of relevant trends/news and advise leadership on upcoming opportunities/risks. Evaluate pending legislation, policy and regulations; determine impact to Criterion, and help develop the company’s response. Create documents to brief company executives on legislative matters and provide guidance/recommendations on external communications. You must have strong writing and presentation skills.
  • Build/Maintain Stakeholder Relationships – Nurture positive relationships with strategically important government officials, opinion leaders, third-party agencies, and other external stakeholders; determine points of influence and advocacy and advise senior leaders; and tell the company’s story in powerful and appropriate ways.
  • Develop/Maintain Portfolio of Communications Tools – Work with Criterion’s strategic communications team on messaging, external outreach, and the development of relevant communications tools.

Qualifications

Education And Experience Required:

  • Degrees in Political Science, Public Policy/Administration, Law, Business Administration, Communications or other related field
  • Minimum 5-7+ years of progressive experience with federal legislation, grassroots advocacy, lobbying, or campaign organizing experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrated skills with risk assessment, setting priorities, negotiation, and influence management
  • Positive, can-do attitude with strong support of Criterion’s values of ethics, integrity, excellence, and focus on the mission
  • Successful multi-tasker experienced working with tight deadlines and competing demands

Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; exceptional listening skills; strong presentation skills.
