Job Summary
The American Bar Association (ABA) is seeking a Grassroots Specialist to work closely with the Director of Grassroots and Digital Advocacy in coordinating the ABA’s day-to-day grassroots operations and help executing the digital strategies for mobilizing constituents. This position will assist in developing assets to motivate and engage members to take action on a variety of advocacy issues of concern to the legal profession.

Job Responsibilities
  • Work with the grassroots team to coordinate the ABA’s advocacy campaigns and activities using the latest innovative and compelling grassroots tools.
  • Provide research, writing, social media, and digital advocacy support to the American Bar Association’s Government Affairs Office (GAO).
  • Manage GAO digital content, databases, and web pages to inform internal and external audiences about ABA priorities, relevant legislation, and calls to action.
  • Work with members of the ABA’s Grassroots Action Team to mobilize advocates to communicate with policymakers through phone calls, social media interactions, written communications, and in-person meetings, both in Washington and at home.
  • Identify particularly engaged Grassroots Action Team members willing to get more involved and assist in their training to become grasstops “Key Contacts.”
  • Use the latest tools to research legislative developments and drafts articles, infographics, talking points, fact sheets, and reports on advocacy-related matters.
  • Assist in coordinating the ABA’s annual fly-in event, ABA Day, in Washington.
  • Analyze and report on metrics and analytics for grassroots/grasstops communications and uses data to increase member engagement and improve on social media strategies. 
Basic Qualifications & Interests
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.  At least one to three years’ experience in grassroots strategic development and issue advocacy campaigns.  At least one to three years’ experience in using advocacy related technology and social media.  At least one to three years’ experience with the federal political and legislative process. 

Preferred Qualifications & Interests
Experience creating digital media using Adobe products (Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, InDesign).  Previous experience in planning and/or managing advocacy related events such as fly-ins or campaign events.  Excellent oral, written and social media skills.  Experience on Capitol Hill preferred.
