Job Description

The Global Ethics Office at State Street is seeking a Political Law Global Subject Matter professional.  The successful candidates will represent the Ethics Office and support employees at State Street with education, guidance and consultation in all areas of Political Law compliance.  In addition, this individual will monitor, deal and respond to potential infractions, create learning material and analyze metrics and data that inform the Company about emerging trends.  In addition, it is expected that this Global Subject Matter professional will also keep in tune with emerging marketplace and workplace practices outside the Company.

Primary Responsibilities:
• Review, research and respond to contribution and activity requests from those employees required to pre-clear their political contributions and solicitation activities (currently about 2600).
• Lead and support State Street’s procurement lobbying and related reporting requirements.
• Review and approve Government Relations and PAC political fundraiser and contribution requests.
• Support and facilitate the Compliance Oversight Program (risk assessment, control assessment, monitoring and surveillance and issue identification, as appropriate) with respect to political law compliance.
• Work closely with the Business Units, both the business (First Line of Defense) and compliance (Second Line of Defense) to ensure all regulatory requirements pertaining to political law compliance (including pay-to-play laws, state and local requirements and reporting and procurement lobbying obligations) are being met.
• Develop targeted training and communications to ensure that employees are aware of and remain in compliance with all regulatory requirements pertaining to political law compliance.
• Manage and develop a team of up to two to ensure job responsibilities and projects are completed on time.


The following are required:
• Law degree and a preferred 5 years’ experience in Political Law compliance or other related area
• Business results orientation – experienced in driving results in time-sensitive environments
• Excellent communication and cross-cultural skills
• Customer orientation
• Ability to collaborate and influence colleagues
• Experienced in leading and managing staff
The following are strongly preferred:
• Familiarity with a regulatory environment.
• Preference will be given to those with knowledge of financial services
• Experience of working in a Global company
