Internal Communications Manager (Open to Remote)

Job Summary:


As a member of the Organizational Development team, the Internal Communications Manager plays an integral role in supporting change, engaging employees, and shaping the employee experience at IGS Energy.  This individual can leverage their creative storytelling capabilities to engage employees in unique, authentic, and compelling ways.


This individual will be at the forefront of important change management initiatives such as redefining culture as we embrace the future of work.  This individual will work closely with internal partners to educate, engage, and inspire employees to live our values, fulfill our purpose and stay connected to business priorities and happenings.


In this newly created role, the Internal Communications Manager will be the architect, and will build and scale IGS Energy’s internal communications function and strategy. This individual will be comfortable putting in place structure and strategy where not much exists today. And this individual will be comfortable crafting a vision and enlisting and aligning others to bring it to life.


Primary Responsibilities: 


  • Leverage background and experience to own and drive building the internal communications function.
  • Develop the internal communications strategy to innovate and deploy content to reach our employees at the right time, in the right way through the right channel.
  • Innovate strategies and advise executives in crafting and refining messaging to ensure communications are aligned and coordinated, and focused on the employee experience, tied to our corporate brand, strategy, and always underpinned by our values.
  • Understand business, initiatives, and priorities to become a trusted, knowledgeable communications partner and advisor.
  • Analyze metrics gathered from various channels and communication tactics to draw measurable conclusions to ensure effectiveness of communication strategies and efforts.
  • Leverage excellent writing and storytelling to translate company strategy and objectives into consumable communications for various audiences using various channels.
  • Support the Company’s tactical and programmatic communications across many different employee groups.  This includes close collaboration with a variety of internal colleagues to educate, engage and inspire employees relative to people strategies and programs such as Total Rewards, People Development, Engagement, Recognition and Diversity & Inclusion.
  • Inform, engage, and inspire employees through company-wide campaigns that highlight IGS as a nationally recognized Great Place to Work.  Align with the Marketing team who will achieve similar objectives externally for potential candidates.
  • Works closely with Social Impact to help bring alive the company’s conscious culture, rooted in our values, and focused on achieving bold plans.
  • Lead the company’s internal social network channel, Workplace from Facebook.  Manage the vendor relationship, monitor content, and measure engagement. Assess channel effectiveness and identify ways to leverage in overall communication strategy.
  • Play a lead role in the company’s ever-evolving Intranet SharePoint site, Inside IGS Energy. Act as a member of the intranet governance committee.  Monitor analytics and support content lifecycle. Work closely with Brand, IT, and Content Owners to champion the intranet cause and keep it focused, ensure content is up to date and aligned with overall intranet strategy.


Other Roles and Responsibilities


  • Provide support to HR Business Partners and Chief People Officer as needed by advising, reviewing, and editing communication plans and content to support significant events such as reorganizations and changes impacting larger audiences.


Required Skills:


  • A builder mindset: ability to bring focus to ambiguity; ability to prioritize what should come first; think entrepreneurially and iteratively scale.
  • Proven experience in the creation of content, development, and delivery of proactive and compelling internal communications strategies.
  • Experience working with a variety of stakeholders, clearly articulating ideas, successfully handling differing points of view and building strong partnerships.
  • Ability to translate complex information into consumable communications for various audiences – excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex projects with diverse groups of stakeholders. Familiarity with project management concepts, practices and techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to strategize and share new and creative ideas.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, sometimes ambiguous environment and manage multiple deadlines and tasks.
  • Trustworthy with a high level of discretion.  Proven experience working with executive leaders.
  • Strong ability to work on the visual layout of content and familiarity with digital and video means of communication.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office suite, including Teams and SharePoint.  Experience with Workplace is a plus.
  • Previous experience in the energy industry is a plus.


Minimum Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, English, PR, or related field
  • Minimum of 7 years’ relevant experience and a proven track record of developing and executing strategies that drive cultural and organizational change


Travel Required (10%)
