Job Description & Qualifications

Key Responsibilities
Primary responsibility to shape and inform legislative and regulatory policies related to data use, customer privacy and cybersecurity that support Ford’s leadership role in connected vehicles, autonomous vehicles and mobility services.

Transportation Mobility

  • Coordinate internally with Government Relations team and key business functions to shape Ford’s point of view on data, privacy and cybersecurity issues.  Ensure product plans are aligned and informed by the legislative and regulatory environment at the local, state, federal and international levels.
  • Coordinate legislative and regulatory strategies with the Government Relations Director of Mobility to support Ford’s current and emerging business initiatives.
  • Interface directly with Ford’s business and product teams to ensure alignment and understanding of legislative and regulatory priorities
  • Interface with external coalitions, business partners and key stakeholders to support Ford mobility initiatives and policy development at the local, state, federal and international levels.

Customer Privacy

  • Work with key House and Senate Congressional Committees and Administration officials to align Ford priorities with legislative and regulatory initiatives on data privacy issues
  • Leverage Ford engagement with key coalitions to shape and align views
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on legislative and regulatory initiatives, including GDPR, California Privacy Protection Act, and emerging U.S. federal and state initiatives
  • Support internal Ford policy and strategy reviews
  • Identify opportunities to shape and align policies on the collection, sharing, use and retention of data with key stakeholders including dealers (customer data, warranty repair, franchise laws), suppliers, and business partners (Argo AI, Spin etc.)
  • Monitor emerging privacy and data protection legislation, analyzing compliance requirements and impacts on transportation, communication and technology sectors

Cybersecurity

  • Work with key House and Senate Congressional Committees and Administration officials to align Ford priorities with legislative and regulatory initiatives on cybersecurity issues
  • Serve as Ford’s lead policy contact on the industry’s Cybersecurity Sector Advisory Committee (ISAC)
  • Inform and align global, national and regional cybersecurity program initiatives that impact Ford operations
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on cybersecurity legislative and regulatory initiatives in dealing with internal and external stakeholders

Additional Responsibilities

  • Expand Ford’s outreach beyond the automotive sector and develop relationships with key partners, companies, associations and organizations that are recognized as being leaders and trusted voices on data, technology and mobility policy
  • Leverage the Ford PAC to help inform and support elected officials

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required
  • 5+ years of experience in government affairs, government communications and/or political fundraising

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of internal and external relationship building experience.
  • Strong relationships with high level organizations and stakeholders.
  • Understanding and experience in dealing with state and federal policy makers and political communication needs.
  • Strong presentation skills and engagement with social media message channels.
