Your Role:

This is an exciting new opportunity in the Corporate Affairs team – dedicated to supporting the Life Science business of Merck.  Reporting to the Life Science global Government & Public Affairs leader, you will develop and lead strategies for business growth and risk management through advocacy, shaping public policy, public procurement and stakeholder engagement.  You will formulate public policy perspectives and strategies to advance Life Science R&D, bio-manufacturing and quality assurance business sector priorities.  You will also identify and lead engagement with external stakeholders relevant for the Life Science business of Merck and collaborate with the LS business functions and CA counterparts to ensure Life Science business priorities are translated and executed in a groupwide policy and transaction advocacy agenda.  You will also prepare internal and externally facing position papers including advocacy collaterals and white papers for use in policy and transaction development.  A purposeful social media engagement to advance the life science policy growth strategy as an important part of this role. This role can be based in either the US or Europe.


Who you are:

• 15 or more years of experience in Governments & Public Affairs, preferred experience in a related science and technology/bio-manufacturing industry

• Experience within Government & Public Affairs, marketing, strategy or equivalent other life science related business function

• Government service or relevant trade association, NGO experience preferred

• Proven experience advancing public policy issues to achieve tangible outcomes

• Proven experience working across multiple geographies and working in the matrix

• Clear organization and strategic thinker with demonstrated ability to execute against a plan

• “Can do” with a commercial focus aimed at delivering tangible business results

• Exceptional written and visual communication skills

• Policy acumen and fluency

• External communication
