What you’ll be doing…

  • Responsible for developing and implementing Verizon’s county and municipal legislative strategy, community engagement tactics and content in support of company goals and positions across all business units enterprise-wide with a focus on issues including technology deployment
  • Responsible for representing Verizon and working with third parties to influence policy makers at the county and municipal government level across the Austin metro area.
  • Accountable for strengthening VZ’s political impact using extensive government experience and network.
  • Supports Verizon state legislative and regulatory team to influence decisions in key regulatory initiatives
  • Responsibilities relate to identifying and influencing proposed county and municipal legislative activities working with advocates.
  • Plans and executes strategies to ensure that any county and municipal legislation has a positive or neutral impact on the company.
  • Interacts with members of county and municipal legislative bodies.
  • Keeps management informed of pending legislation and works within government affairs and cross functionally to quickly respond to key external stakeholders questions
  • Serves as primary strategic liaison to company affiliations, special business, third party groups, grassroots local influencers and thought leaders.
  • Drives development of polished narratives to build local support of strategic initiatives
  • Plans and develops strategic messaging
  • Represents Verizon in a variety of forums including providing testimony during meetings/hearings that address legislation impacting Verizon.
  • Compiles competitive intelligence.
  • Responsibilities relate to identifying and influencing proposed county and municipal legislative activities.
  • State legislative policy responsibility, as required.

Where you’ll be working…

This hybrid role will have a defined work location that includes work from home and assigned office days as set by the manager.

 

What we’re looking for…

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience
  • Strong network of contacts at the local governmental level in the Austin metro area.
  • Government relations experience with an understanding of state and local government and their external and internal influencers.
  • High level of expertise in advocacy/issues management, community organizing, and coalition-building. Exceptional knowledge of regulatory and legislative processes at the county and municipal level
  • Experience in the development, management and advocacy of telecommunications policies and positions
  • High level of knowledge concerning economic regulation in the communications, cable, or utilities industries
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% within territory in personally owned vehicle
  • Ability to work both during normal business hours, as well as, evenings and weekends should the circumstances require availability

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • Law degree
  • Highest level of personal integrity
  • Demonstrated communications skills, both verbal and written.
  • Public policy, community engagement, advocacy experience on behalf of a technology, communications, cable TV or public utilities business/industry.
  • Broad knowledge of Verizon operations and business functions or extensive positioning already established in territory.
  • Demonstrated skills in negotiating issues in support of corporate goals and objectives.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Self-starter and evidence of intellectual curiosity.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills required
  • Ability to work with all levels of management
