Idaho National Laboratory’s (INL) External Engagement and Communications group is seeking forward-thinking professionals interested in exploring a career as a Local Government Affairs Lead.

This position serves as the INL representative with local government and community leaders in Idaho Falls and surrounding cities/counties.

Our team works a hybrid 9×80 schedule located at our Idaho Falls EROB facility with every other Friday off!

Responsibilities Include:

• Will have lead responsibility over outreach to, and interaction with, the local government officials.
• Will serve as INL’s primary contact in establishing and maintaining key relationships with local government entities, community organizations and business groups in collaboration with the Director of State and Local Government Affairs.
• Will have significant experience in working with policymakers at the local, state, or federal level.
• Will have a broad expertise in the state/federal/local policy-making processes and the role of regulatory agencies.
• The individual who serves in this role will preferably possess extensive knowledge in the critical initiatives and programs of the Lab most impacted by state and local units of government.
• As one of INL’s primary liaisons between INL leadership and state and local government/business leaders, this individual will work with the Director to keep lab leadership informed of partnering opportunities and state/local policy issues that may impact the Lab.
• This person will build and handle positive relationships with representatives of numerous Idaho partners.
• Knowledge of INL programs and strategic vision, a willingness to work independently, and a quick ability to develop advanced concepts and strategies for action will be essential to success.
• Being able to translate technical concepts into digestible information for policymakers and other lab advocates will be an important capability.
• teamwork, working cooperatively with others in expanding INL’s statewide and regional reach/importance, and an ability to lead important projects to completion will be necessary.

 Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree plus 5 years’ experience interacting with local, state and/or federal government officials or Advanced Degree and 3 years equivalent experience.

• Knowledge of local, state and/or federal budgeting processes is essential.
• Excellent communication and issue management skills are required.

Job Information

Salary Grade 210 ($93,492- $154,212)

• Chosen applicants are required to show a demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working environment.
• TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
