Job Description

This position manages the Government Relations Division’s efforts to provide analysis, education, and programming to the AAFP, AAFP’s state chapters and other AAFP components concerning state and federal legislative and regulatory issues affecting family medicine in the state capitals.

Other duties as assigned.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree (graduate degree preferred) in a discipline directly related to this job or equivalent work experience and at least six years of directly related work experience.  Strong health policy background, preferably in state government relations necessary.  Must excel in public speaking to outside organizations and/or Academy related groups.  Strong health policy analytical skills and knowledge of political process at both the state and federal levels essential. Must have the ability to multi-task, adhere to quick turn around deadlines, the ability to organize a conference, and possess excellent writing skills. Must have the ability to travel and have the physical stamina to work long hours.

Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Provide strategic leadership to the Center for State Policy, the AAFP and our state chapters on a portfolio of issues identified as important to the discipline of family medicine. This portfolio includes, but is not limited to the following policy areas: Primary Care Payment and Delivery System Reform; Medicaid-based; State insurance or private sector initiatives. Coverage & Access; Medicaid; Children’s Health Insurance Program; Health Insurance Marketplace(s); Scope of Practice; Benefit Design; Primary Care Spending/Investment; Administrative Burden; Direct Primary Care; Pharmaceutical. Legal Issues; Professional Liability Reform; Tax Code Issues
  • Provide strategic leadership to state chapters on research, policy, and advocacy activities of importance to the discipline of family medicine
  • Lead the AAFP’s policy and advocacy efforts on Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP)
  • Oversee the planning and execution of the AAFP State Legislative Conference (SLC)
  • Oversee the AAFP State Legislative Tracking program
  • Oversee the AAFP State Chapter Resource Development
  • Provide research and analytic support to the Congress of Delegates, National Conference of Constituency Leaders, and the National Conference
