Westport Fuel Systems Inc. is looking for a North America based Communications professional with a background in external communications, preferably with added experience in Internal communications, in a Global automotive clean technology-focused company.

The selected candidate will be responsible for managing North American communications, including media relations, events and speaking opportunities, and working with Human Resources on Internal Communications. This role will be involved in the coordination of strategy and outreach with global teams including Communications, Marketing, Investor Relations, Government Relations, and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) reporting.

Position Responsibilities

Strategic Communication:

  • Proven track record communicating complex technology solutions and ideas in a well articulated manner to the target audience.
  • Work with global teams including communication, Marketing, Investor Relations, Government Relations, and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) teams to establish and implement proactive communication. Internal communication experience is an added advantage.
  • Experience with planning and executing social and digital media outreach to drive a consistent company narrative internally and externally.
  • Provide management and oversight of North American PR agency.
  • Oversee the measurement and reporting of PR metrics.

External Communication:

  • Manage PR initiatives that generate media exposure including engaging with journalists, pitching stories, fielding inquiries, and monitoring the media landscape for opportunities and trends.
  • Write press releases, media pitches, talking points and other collateral for PR efforts.
  • Assist in facilitating media interviews with subject matter experts, including identifying and training key leaders to serve as spokespersons; provide media coaching as necessary.
  • Working with marketing to plan and execute events, conference and speaking opportunities for subject matter experts and executives.

Internal Communication:

  • Work closely with the Global HR team to plan, coordinate, and deliver internal communication to ensure timely and consistent communication via the appropriate channels.
  • Translate employee feedback into organizational action and communication improvements.

Position Requirements:

  • 7-10 years of experience in Public Relations or Corporate Communication, including external and internal communication responsibilities.
  • Existing relationships with transportation, powertrain, and/or Commercial Vehicle industry media is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including AP Style knowledge.
  • High level of creativity, attention to detail, strong project management skills, self-motivated and able to work efficiently under deadlines.
  • Strong editorial and proofreading skills with a keen eye for detail and an ability to project manage various tasks, ensuring delivery in a timely fashion.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint and other Office tools.
  • Experience with graphic design, Photoshop (or other Adobe programs), or other digital media tools is a plus.
