Girls Who Code is an international non-profit organization dedicated to closing the gender gap in technology. Our organization does more than teach girls to code; we’re building a global movement to change culture and challenge systems that have kept girls out of technology. Ten years in, Girls Who Code is a major voice in the fight for gender equality and a thought leader in creating a more fair and equitable society and economy.

The Manager of Communications & Public Relations will drive Girls Who Code’s external communications program. The role will be responsible for positioning Girls Who Code and its spokespeople as leaders in the fight for gender equality. This role will work across the entire communication portfolio, including press and media relations, inbound and proactive media opportunities, executive speaking and briefings, executive thought leadership such as op-eds, social media, and copywriting for our weekly newsletter.

The successful candidate will have more than five years of demonstrated communications and media relations experience at a consumer brand or PR agency. You are an exceptional writer and a natural storyteller, who can craft stories that shift hearts and minds. You are savvy about social media and digital platforms and excited to serve as a thought partner and manager to our Social Media Associate. You can work independently across multiple projects without losing sight of the details. And you’re energized by and committed to our mission and the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage all press and media relations to secure high-impact press for the organization and its spokespeople.
  • Prepare organizational spokespeople for all external engagements, including media opportunities and speaking engagements
  • Create and execute communications plans for key organizational moments and announcements, including program launches, campaigns, and new initiatives
  • Write press releases, remarks and speeches, op-eds, briefing documents, blog posts, research reports and more to position Girls Who Code as a thought leader
  • Craft and tailor key messaging to ensure Girls Who Code’s voice is consistent across all channels
  • Provide compelling copy for Girls Who Code’s weekly newsletter
  • Oversee the growth and engagement of Girls Who Code’s social platforms, and manage the Social Media Associate
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Programs, Research and Evaluation, and Development to ensure clear and consistent communication externally

The ideal candidate for this position has:

  • 5 years of experience in communications, media relations and/or related fields
  • Exceptional writer and storyteller who can flex across a range of voices, audiences, and formats
  • Experience with media relations and landing stories with reporters
  • Savvy digital native who can navigate the latest social platforms and comms tools
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, set priorities, and meet deadlines required
  • Ability to work independently with a high degree of initiative, organization, and attention to detail
  • Commitment to Girls Who Code’s mission and the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion
