Key Responsibilities:

The Manager – Corporate Communications will lead local communication efforts on behalf of United with a focus on the airline’s Newark hub. In this position, you will work to conceive, manage and implement campaigns to promote the United brand both externally and internally in the NYC market.

This communicator will handle day-to-day media inquiries for Newark, serve as a company spokesperson and support internal communications as needed to Newark-based employees. The Manager will also develop and maintain relationships with local United executives as well as media outlets throughout the region and effectively collaborate with the internal communications teams to amplify positive news coverage and support employee engagement efforts. Additionally, you will:

  • Lead the development of market announcements and support cross-functional brand activations.
  • Plan and implement communications campaigns and events focused in the Newark area.
  • Serve as media relations lead for the local market, including responding to media inquiries and perform media outreach to achieve brand placement in key publications.
  • Serve as employee communications lead for the markets and develop and report unique stories that highlight our employees, operation and strategy in the market.
  • Assist United’s Social Media team with collecting local content for use across a variety of platforms.

What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism or related field
  • 3-5 years of PR/communications experience
  • Experience in a communications and/or public relations department
  • Proficiency with social media platforms and capturing appropriate content (video, photography)
  • Ability to develop messaging and integrated communications plans and strategies
  • Highly effective in a fast-paced environment
  • Expertise in the evolving media landscape and ability to work with traditional and non-traditional media
  • Outstanding writing, media relations and communication skills
  • Consistent record in balancing multiple priorities and collaborators and working with team members across various geographies
  • Superior business writing and editing skills
  • Capacity to deliver against quality and timing targets

  • Firm grasp and relationships with Newark area media as well as with relevant business and/or travel media
