The foundation of BD’s Public Affairs strategy is to proactively engage with policymakers to enhance our mutual understanding of healthcare needs in support of BD’s purpose of advancing the world of health and the company’s strategy to grow, simplify and empower. As a multinational company, international partnership and cross-sector engagement is especially important.

The Manager of International Affairs will support these effects by managing key international relationships, engaging with key officials from agencies, non-government organizations (NGO’s) and other global stakeholders and to identify important stakeholders for future partnership and collaboration.

The Manager of International Affairs will be responsible for managing BD’s relationships with organizations driving policy, research and investment to improve public health around the world.

Over the coming years, the Manager of International Affairs will help manage a growing body of work on pandemic preparedness, antimicrobial resistance, cervical cancer, global health security, and tracking or responding to future risks that shape global health priorities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Expected to nurture relationships and collaborate with staff of international organization that are leading health-focused initiatives in global health.
  • Contribute to BD’s understanding of the priorities and specific policy and programmatic initiatives being pursued by international organizations at the forefront of improving global health.
  • Liase with the Public Affairs organization, and in particular with the Global Public Health team, in generating ideas and opportunities for BD to link its capabilities to stakeholders advancing the global health agenda in the U.S., Geneva and regional and other global locations.

Portfolio Management:

  • Understand intersection between external global health needs and internal business priorities and capabilities
  • Assess how internal initiatives connect to global stakeholder strategic interests
  • Develop mechanism to track and update Global Public Health program progress in alignment with global stakeholder priorities
  • Identify existing and new external stakeholders critical to the success of BD’s collaborative programs
  • Identify potential funding sources aligned with BD initiatives
  • Coordinate BD response to global agency tenders and calls for proposals
  • Track progress against commitments

Relationship Management:

  • Leverage knowledge of BD organization, programs and priorities to identify opportunities to share program updates with relevant internal and external stakeholders
  • Develop communications plans in support of collaborative programs and partnerships
  • Provide frequent updates to external partners on program development goals and policy initiatives
  • Support awareness of BD’s global public health work through newsletters, blogs and other media by sharing progress on strategic initiatives

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • A strong understanding of key international development sub-sectors such as global health, economic development, and government relations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills along with knowledge of emerging communications trends and technologies
  • Excellent business acumen with the ability to anticipate company and team needs
  • Talent for prioritizing among many important tasks in a matrixed organization and driving projects to on-time completion
  • Excellent judgement, flexibility, maturity, diplomacy, patience, and sense of humor
  • Team oriented mind-set and strong interpersonal communication skills

Education and Experince Required:

  • Minimum Bachelors’ Degree in Public Health, Public Relations, Marketing, Communications, Journalism or Political Science (or related Bachelors’ degree)
  • 3+ years of relevant experience and proven track record of success in managing corporate reputation, citizenship, crisis planning and company values
  • Min 1+ years with experience addressing global health needs. Familiarity with financial, legal, risk, and compliance issues in a non-profit or educational context
  • A strong understanding of key international development sub-sectors such as global health, economic development, and government relations
  • Talent for prioritizing among many important tasks in a matrixed organization and driving projects to on-time completion
  • Knowledge of multilateral cooperation efforts and/or global health policy development and delivery

Work Environment / Travel

  • Travel required domestically and internationally: ~10%
