The Restaurant Association of Maryland (RAM) is seeking a Manager of Local Affairs and Grassroots Organization. As an integral part of the Government Affairs team, this position provides the opportunity to work on a variety of issues that affect the restaurant/foodservice industry at the local government level. This position will be responsible for local bill tracking and analysis, news tracking, research, writing, grassroots activation, and other activities in support of the Association’s position and mission. Local governments include County Councils and City/Town Councils in Maryland.

This position requires the confidence and diplomacy to interact at all levels inside and outside the organization. Successful candidates will be self-starters; have strong oral, written, and research skills, and work with a high level of accountability and attention to detail. This position provides the opportunity for advancement within the Association to work/lobby on statewide legislative and regulatory issues. Candidate must submit a cover letter in addition to their resume when applying.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Association’s Government Affairs team by serving as the point person for all legislative tracking, news updates, and policy analysis at the local levels of government in Maryland.
  • Produce compliance information regarding local legislation, laws and regulations that affect the restaurant/foodservice industry.
  • Engage RAM members to contact elected officials, testify at public hearings, and to speak with the media on local issues when needed.
  • Draft legislative updates, action alerts, talking points, testimony/position statements and issue summaries.
  • Represent the Association at meetings and public hearings as necessary (some evening meetings/hearings as determined by local government calendars).
  • Actively engage the restaurant industry at the local level, with a focus on ensuring a representative diversity, to build and foster relationships with elected officials.
  • Assist with the Association’s State government affairs goals as needed, and other Association-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • 4-year college degree (public policy, political science, business, communications, or similar area of study preferred).
  • 1-2 years of professional government affairs or government/legislative process experience (or related public policy experience). 
  • Must have own transportation and be willing to travel statewide as needed (mileage reimbursement provided).
  • Must be willing to work primarily at Columbia office location; occasional telecommuting is allowed.

  • Proficiency across the Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn new technology as needed.

 

Base salary

$65,000/yr
