Overview

 

The National Grocers Association (NGA) is the national trade association for America’s 21,500 independent community grocers. NGA members include retail and wholesale grocers located in every congressional district across the country, as well as state grocers’ associations, manufacturers, and service suppliers.

 

The NGA Government Relations (GR) team manages government relations, political activities, member casework, and more. We exclusively lobby on federal issues across a range of policies, including food, nutrition, antitrust, payments, labor and employment, tax, privacy, among others. 

 

Position Summary

 

NGA is searching for an energetic and ambitious individual to manage NGA’s Political Action Committee (PAC) and related activities. This person should have a strong interest in politics and be motivated to grow a political giving operation. The ideal candidate has a background in fundraising, PAC management, and has successfully built and grown a PAC strategy. The manager will report to NGA’s VP of Government Relations. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain campaign tracking system
  • Maintain/plan PAC budget and process check requests for campaigns
  • Manage PAC calendar/track fundraisers
  • Assist with companywide presentations and newsletter distribution
  • Manage confidential employee data internally and with external vendor
  • Maintain company compliance by submitting federal reports
  • Assist with PAC solicitations and other outreach efforts
  • Generate briefing materials on members of Congress
  • Maintain team records, distribution lists and track member engagement 
  • Evaluate opportunities and engage in PAC development and growth activities 
  • Conduct research on effective PAC growth strategies
  • Develop and implement NGA’s PAC growth strategy by planning fundraising and events
  • Support Government Relations team and NGA team with administrative duties
  • Write weekly, monthly, and as needed communications and updates for membership
  • Executes logistics for NGA Government Relations team activities at various NGA and industry events (trade show, Congressional fly-in, conferences, meetings, etc.)

 

Skills and Experience

 

  • Strong political expertise and proven knowledge of federal campaigns, candidates, etc. 
  • 2-4 years of experience fundraising, campaigns, and/or government relations
  • Strong critical thinking skills and eagerness to proactively address team needs
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Passion for learning and growing professionally
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask on simultaneous projects
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships 
  • Team player with proven ability to collaborate on other projects
  • Demonstrable strategic acumen in solving political challenges
  • Bachelor’s degree required
