Role Description

 

Public Policy & Emerging Issues Director manages global risks associated with changing public policies, including those that impact energy, the environment, chemical management, tax, and trade.  Chemical management laws, value chain activities, increased environmental regulations, free trade agreements, and the lowering of the corporate tax rate are considered company priorities for public policy. Position manages the issues management process whereby  these issues are identified and appropriately addressed to capture opportunities and mitigate threats.  Public Policy management requires a strong interface among business, function and government-linked  stakeholders in a strategic manner that is aligned with business objectives. Provides valuable input  to business strategy and its implementation though insights and relationship development of the value chain. Works to enhance Eastman corporate reputation and brand positioning in its markets by enhancing and establishing key government and non-government partnerships globally

 

Responsibilities

 

•Business acumen – ability to understand business strategy and can communicate in business language of policy/regulation impact to senior management

•In-depth knowledge of impactful legislative/regulatory and marketplace drivers and related stakeholders

•Performance Management Capability, setting clear strategic priorities; Strong interpersonal skills and collaborative style

•Working understanding of government structures as public policy process, and of pre-regulatory marketplace drivers that could impact products

•Excellent advocacy and communication/presentation skills, both orally and written with ability to articulate complex content and meaning to relevant stakeholders; experience working with C-suite level management

•Ability to network and quickly access necessary internal and external relationships to achieve desired results; Ability to earn and maintain the respect of management, colleagues and other external stakeholders

•Clear thinker, an ability to make decisions and exercise sound judgment of risks in a complex and fast-moving environment; strong sense of integrity and compliance

•Fluency in English/local language, and understanding of culture while keeping global mindset

•Willingness to work outside regular business hours and travel nationally and globally; Up to 30% travel required.

•Able to multitask and work without supervision

•Managing the development of policy programs and oversees the production of policy positions, as well as the organization’s advocacy work

•Ensures that the strategic objectives of the organization are fulfilled

•Effective leader and be able to take responsibility of key organizational issues

•Good judgment and be able to make decisions in a timely manner

•Stellar problem-solving skills and be able to conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis

•Superior writing skills and be able to create business documents

Required Education and/or Experience

 

  • Undergraduate degree with science or economics preferred
  • 10 years of experience in public policy/government affairs with a heavily regulated industry or working at a senior level governmental position
  • International exposure
  • 2nd language is beneficial
