The National Association of Workforce Boards (NAWB) is a national membership organization which supports the work of over 500 regional workforce development boards (WBDs) and their 10,000 plus business members. NAWB champions the priorities of its members on critical policy issues, and promotes impactful strategic partnerships across companies, organizations, and industry associations to advance workforce development. By driving member informed policies that advance skill development, creating strategic partnerships, and brokering connections at the local and national levels, NAWB strives to assist the workforce development system in providing opportunity for all.

To support NAWB’s work, NAWB is looking for a Manager of Public Policy and Government Relations that will have a persistent and informed policy focus on issues important to NAWB members and stakeholders.

Responsibilities And Duties

  • Manage state and federal government relations efforts across a range of policy priorities serving as the primary NAWB registered lobbyist.
  • Stay current on existing and proposed legislation, providing analysis and suggested actions.
  • Propose policy ideas in support of NAWB members’ work and help formulate and execute lobbying strategy.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with staff/members of Congress and related federal agencies in partnership with NAWB leadership.
  • Plan, organize, and execute webinars, in person briefings, and other educational opportunities for NAWB members and/or stakeholders.
  • Use of written skills to develop collateral on legislative and regulatory issues to update NAWB membership in a timely manner.
  • Participate in research and projects relevant to policy work of NAWB.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with coalitions and other national workforce organizations.

Qualifications And Experience

  • The ideal candidate will have three-five years of experience working in government relations for an association, industry group, or government affairs consulting firm, or in a legislative and/or communications capacity for a member of Congress.
  • Preference for candidates with knowledge of workforce, education or economic development policy.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational and time management skills, and ability to meet strict deadlines.
  • Requires Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to set priorities, work independently, and produce materials in consistent, efficient, and timely manner.
  • Thorough understanding of the political, legislative, and regulatory process and landscape.

The successful candidate will be a creative, outgoing, hard-working individual with the ability and experience to manage high profile projects for NAWB. The successful candidate will have the creativity, experience, and skills to work directly with the President/CEO, EVP, and elected leadership.

Salary is negotiable and commensurate with experience and includes full benefits package including healthcare, disability, dental, vision, and a 401(k).
