Position Overview

Reporting to the Senior Director, Public Relations and Executive Communications, the Manager, Public Relations is a key member of AGA’s Communications Team and helps in the execution of media relations and content creation.  The Manager will monitor media and social media for communications opportunities and assist in the development of AGA’s diverse set of communications products including writing blog posts, fact sheets, media pitches, executive communications, website copy and more.  The Manager collaborates with all members of the Communications Department, other AGA colleagues and membership to conceive, plan and produce communications materials. Functions of this role include support and administrative duties such as managing daily media monitoring, setting up events, updating media lists and other items as necessary.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Draft and edit material for all industry and member communications, including AGA’s website, blog, weekly internal communications report for AGA staff, monthly communication newsletter for members and marketing materials
  • Draft and edit external communications material (press releases, fact sheets, op-eds, talking points and media kits) for staff, media and other external audiences
  • Work with internal resources and/or outside consultants to enhance existing communication materials
  • Assist in preparing speeches and presentations for delivery by the AGA Leadership Team to membership, media and other key external audiences
  • Provide timely response to communications related requests from AGA members
  • Consistently monitor media and develop daily media newsletter each morning, tracking media and social media throughout the day to identify opportunities for outreach and rapid response
  • Assist the Senior Director in building and managing relationships with representatives of key media outlets and stakeholder organizations
  • Assist the Senior Director with the planning and execution of public relations programs, including news conferences and events, interviews with AGA and industry leaders, article placements, and legislative/regulatory events
  • Provide support to the Communications Department including event planning, event management and execution, member engagement as appropriate and general administrative support
  • Will work closely with Manger, Digital Communications to support various tasks when backup coverage is needed (e.g., website posting, troubleshooting, etc.)

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, or similar discipline
  • Demonstrated writing and editorial capability, excellent communication skills
  • Two to three years of experience in public relations and/or preparing communications materials for a variety of audiences
  • Proficient in the use of  digital and social media communications strategies (blogging, Twitter, Facebook, etc.)
  • Extensive interest in media trends, developing storylines and creating proactive communications strategies
  • Performance driven with the ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, produce written products efficiently and handle rapidly shifting priorities
  • Creative, energetic, flexible, collaborative and proactive; a team player who can positively and productively impact both strategic and tactical initiatives
  • Strong customer/client orientation
  • Passion for learning new things
