Job Description

The Manager, Social Responsibility Partnerships and Policy supports the YMCA of the USA’s (Y-USA) social responsibility portfolio with a focus on civic health, which includes civics education and engagement, civic bridgebuilding, voter education/outreach, and youth voice. Other issues in the portfolio include volunteerism and AmeriCorps, New Americans/immigration, charitable giving, community violence intervention, and other issues that may impact Ys and the communities they serve.

 

The incumbent will work the Director, Social Responsibility Partnerships and Policy to engage Congress and Executive Branch officials to position the YMCA network as a leader in civic health and promote our national legislative agenda, including working in coalitions and representing the Y at policy convenings. Under guidance of, and in coordination with, the Director, Social Responsibility Partnerships and Policy, this position will manage civic health and social responsibility topics and represent the Y on coalitions to help advance Y-USA’s federal priorities.

 

The Manager collaborates with department colleagues to advance the entire legislative agenda, elevate youth voice across the Y’s three areas of impact (youth development, healthy living and social responsibility) in support of the department strategy. This position will also support the Y network, helping YMCA state and regional Alliances, local YMCA Associations, and the YMCA Youth and Government Program Alliance in their efforts to promote and strengthen civic health.

 

EFFECT ON END RESULTS/STRATEGIC IMPACT 

This position will advance the overall YMCA Social Responsibility portfolio and policy agenda by supporting advocacy at the federal, state and local levels, supporting state and regional alliances, identifying emerging portfolio and policy areas, facilitating internal and external collaborations and partnerships, and leveraging new or untapped resources from government and non-government partners.

 

Qualifications

•Bachelor’s degree is preferred.

•Minimum of 5 years of experience in one or more of the following areas: civics education/engagement, public policy (local/state/federal), and or a nonprofit group/association is required.

•Strong knowledge of civic health policy issues is required.

•Experience working with high school or middle school youth, or knowledge of civics education/engagement programs for youth.

•Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills are required.

•Excellent research and analytical skills are required.

•Ability to interact with tact and professionalism with all levels of the organization as well as represent the YMCA network with professionalism in and before external audiences.

•Advanced ability to multi-task, collaborate, be flexible, prioritize, organize resources, and meet deadlines is required.

•Ability to work in teams and collaborate with others to achieve objectives is required.

•Must understand federated organizational structures and be able to work and collaborate with colleagues throughout the Y network.

•Commitment to YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

•The ability to travel 10% of the time is required.

•Intermediate computer skills and Microsoft Office are required.

 

 

 

Essential Functions

•Works with guidance and coordination from the Director, Social Responsibility Partnerships and Policy to further Y-USA’s impact and influence within the public policy arena, elevate youth voice, and further our influence on civic health issues externally and internally.

•Builds and maintains relationships with Hill and federal agency officials, the White House, coalition partners, YMCA state/regional alliances, and local YMCA leadership.

•Tracks and analyzes federal and state policies, regulations/rules, and funding/support that may impact or benefit the Y and develops tools and resources on these topics.

•Researches and prepares talking points, presentations, issue briefs, speeches, white papers and other documents on civic health and social responsibility public policy issues.

•Supports strategic events including the YMCA Youth Governors Conference & Changemakers Projects and the Youth Advocate Program

•Engages local Ys and state/regional YMCA alliances in voter education/outreach and youth civic engagement activations connected to local, state, and federal elections.

•Collaborates with Y-USA’s Network Experience department to share and gather information and align strategies to leverage shared goals and outcomes.

•Performs other duties as assigned by Director.
