The American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), a national healthcare professional association located in downtown Bethesda, MD has an immediate opening for a Manager, State Affairs. We are seeking a motivated and experienced candidate with a strong background in state policy issues to monitor and analyze emerging issues relevant to the occupational therapy profession.
This individual will be responsible for the following:
- Monitor and analyze state legislative and regulatory issues that affect the occupational therapy profession. Develop and implement appropriate strategies for protecting and advancing the association’s policy interests at the state level.
- Communicate timely information about state legislative and regulatory proposals to state OT associations, members and regulatory boards. Develop written materials such as: (1) periodic legislative/regulatory reports; (2) blog postings; (3) news articles in AOTA publications; and (4) information published via the AOTA State Affairs website.
- Work with members to implement grassroots advocacy on a variety of state issues including licensure, scope of practice, licensure portability, Medicaid and other state payment issues.
- Maintain effective liaisons both internally with appropriate Association staff and volunteer sector and externally with policy makers, other professional organizations, state occupational therapy regulatory boards/councils and external boards to advance the profession’s public policy goals and objectives.
Requirements: BA/BS + minimum of 2 to 4 years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be computer proficient with applicable software applications and perform accurate data entry and retrieval. Must be highly organized, have strong self-direction, have excellent communication and organizational skills, and strong attention to detail. Must demonstrate effective interpersonal skills and interact professionally with all levels of staff and members.
