**Due to COVID-19 this role is currently working primarily remotely. Once FareStart’s office fully reopens, this role will have regular onsite responsibilities in downtown Seattle. **

FareStart is a nonprofit organization in Seattle, Washington that transforms lives, disrupts poverty, and nourishes communities through food, life skills, and job training. We help people overcome employment barriers by teaching them the work and life skills they need to succeed in food-based jobs — and in life.

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis, FareStart has provided millions of meals to organizations across the Seattle area that serve youth, adults, and families who are low-income or experiencing food insecurity.

ABOUT THE POSITION

As the Marketing & Communications Manager, you will manage marketing and communication programs to promote the FareStart brand and impact both locally and nationally; manage, create, and edit content including messaging, stories, photos, videos, collateral material, and advertising; oversee management of digital and print assets, and collaborate closely across organization teams to support and amplify the mission. This position will supervise a marketing and communication team.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • In partnership with the External Affairs Director, participate in developing and implementing strategies for marketing and communications.
  • Manage, create, and edit content including messaging, stories, photos, videos, collateral materials, and advertising in support of the FareStart mission. Manage and curate editorial and external communication calendars.
  • Ensure all content is developed through a lens of diversity, equity, and inclusion; amplify a wide range of voices that represent the communities FareStart serves; and work to create a sense of belonging across all marketing and communication platforms.
  • Oversee management and organization of digital channels including website, SEO initiatives, blog, and social media. Manage MailChimp database lists. Translate and execute strategies to grow subscribers/followers, readership, and overall engagement.
  • Collaborate closely with team leaders across the organization to develop content and stories to promote our job training food security programs, consulting, mission-driven social enterprise businesses, fundraising, volunteer, and advocacy efforts.
  • Develop programs for special events including recruiting, selecting, and preparing internal and external speakers, write and edit scripts and talking points, and produce and manage videos.
  • Manage and analyze reports on the effectiveness of marketing and communication strategies, track website, social media, blog, and e-marketing analytics, and make recommendations as appropriate. Stay abreast of trends and make recommendations as appropriate.
  • Support management of internal communication strategies, projects, and initiatives.
  • Ensure adherence of brand standards and messaging.
  • Manage communication related budget items, vendors, and volunteers.
  • Recruit, mentor, train, and manage a team of individuals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and six (6) or more years of marketing/communications and/or public relations experience; and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience managing others.
  • Experience developing and executing marketing and communication strategies to persuade, engage, and get positive attention.
  • Proficient and experienced in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams; and Adobe Creative Suite. Experience taking and editing photos and creating simple graphics for use on websites and other collateral. Ability to work with customized databases and technology and to conduct internet research.
  • Excellent communication skills including writing, editing, and proofreading skills; familiarity with AP writing style. Ability to adapt communication-based on audience with purpose and inclusivity. Ability to disseminate information effectively to appropriate levels.
  • Demonstrated project management skills and attention to detail; skilled at tracking metrics and analyzing data to inform strategies and pivots.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to balance and prioritize multiple tasks and requests and meet deadlines in a professional manner. Ability to be flexible and adaptable and change plans as needed.
  • Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team, within diverse teams and environments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and comfortably with audiences of different backgrounds and experiences.
  • Ability to display sensitivity, tact, and responsiveness in various situations and maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Ability to listen, give and receive feedback in a productive and professional manner.
  • Ability to listen patiently and attentively, ability to express self clearly and effectively, and the ability to adapt communication based on audience and purpose with inclusivity.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to delegate responsibilities, work with others, and coach employees to develop their full potential. Provide helpful, behaviorally specific feedback to others. Regularly meet with employees to review their development progress and express confidence in their abilities to be successful. Engage in open and honest communication.
