As the Corporate Media Relations & Public Affairs Manager for a Fortune 100 company, you will lead a global team responsible for executing a media plan that supports our corporate strategy, investor relations engagement and enterprise announcements while developing and maintaining positive relationships with media outlets, including beat reporters.

You will be a member of the Enterprise Communications leadership team, supporting the efforts of the enterprise globally through strategic, integrated public affairs and media engagement activities that promote and protect the Caterpillar enterprise brand. The position is responsible for understanding the enterprise strategy to ensure that proactive and reactive media and public affairs activities and efforts support and activate engagement on that plan.

The Corporate Media Relations & Public Affairs Manager is based in our Irving, Texas, headquarters and has high visibility and frequent interaction with the executive team – including the Chairman & CEO, group presidents and vice presidents. You must have a high level of trust with this team and be viewed and utilized as a trusted advisor for a wide range of public messaging that directly impacts our reputation and image with employees, customers, investors and the general public. You will also collaborate closely with Investor Relations, Legal Services, Financial Services, marketing, enterprise process owners of major initiatives, and fellow team members within Global Government & Corporate Affairs.

You will also lead a team of media professionals responsible for engaging with media and externally communicating corporate news. Your team will create materials primarily for media and other stakeholders including investors, employees, dealers, customers, suppliers and government officials through collaboration with subject matter experts across the company.

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

Serve as the lead consultant and manage a team of media professionals responsible for creating the media and external affairs strategies to help drive awareness and understanding of Caterpillar’s enterprise strategy.

Oversee team management of client portfolios while also managing some specific clients’ media and public affairs initiatives.

Manage  a financial communication strategy in close collaboration with Investor Relations that builds confidence in company performance and leadership; serve as a key member of the team developing quarterly earnings communications.

Engage with top tier and local media outlets globally, often on complex issues or problems, which require careful analysis and diagnosis and often require immediate action to resolve the issues.

Provide media support on crisis communications, providing strategic communications guidance and tactical support to the team during crisis situations.

Seek global, public-facing opportunities for executives and senior leaders to reinforce key messages centered around execution of the enterprise strategy.

Serve as the primary media trainer for Caterpillar leaders, managing and collaborating with public relations firms as appropriate.

Must be available 24/7 to respond to global issues that impact Caterpillar’s image and reputation.

Manage public affairs established processes,  including all corporate press releases.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism or related field

12 or more years of media relations experience \

Strong communication skills, specifically written communications, presentation development and storytelling

Understanding of current trends and developments within the global business media landscape

Top Candidates Will Also Have:

Previous experience in a corporate communications role, specifically media relations

Hands-on experience developing and executing a strategic communication plan reflective of the core business objectives

Excellent interpersonal skills and proven ability to lead with influence as well as provide coaching and development

Experience in leveraging multiple communication channels to reach desired audiences including social media, media and customer events

Relocation is offered for this position.
