JOB PURPOSE

To support the Public Affairs Council membership staff (US and Brussels) in all global public affairs membership activities, including engagement, recruitment, retention, research, writing, marketing, communications, and event planning.  Our member community includes 9,000 professionals in the field, ranging from public policy analysts to senior vice presidents of global public affairs. Council members are located across the U.S. and internationally, and more than half of our members work outside the Washington, D.C., area.

LENGTH OF SERVICE

Varied — flexible based on intern schedule. Interns serve approximately 20-30 hours per week.

JOB FUNCTIONS

May include, but not limited to:

  • Conduct internet and other research on U.S. public affairs member prospects, including Fortune 500 companies, emerging-growth companies, organizations and consulting firms, all of which are at the forefront of the public affairs profession.
  • Draft and update existing membership collateral, both print and online.
  • Manage the Council’s membership materials and respond to membership requests for materials.
  • Assist the staff in membership marketing efforts, including outreach for conferences, programs, social media, and other Council events.
  • Help coordinate the development of membership programs, including in-person and virtual member orientations.
  • Work with member contacts to facilitate benefits and services
  • Database and office administration work as needed

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILL SETS

Required:

  • Professional demeanor/superior business etiquette
  • Communications skills: must have excellent written and oral skills (will have interaction with business leaders and other professionals)
  • Research skills, including use of Internet
  • Solid organizational skills
  • Good time management
  • Ability to multitask
  • Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel experience

Optional skills:

  • Previous office/corporate experience
  • Meeting/event planning
  • Editing
  • Phone experience/member relations
  • Political and/or public policy knowledge or experience

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be a current student in good standing
  • Concentrations of study may include business administration, political science, international affairs, social science, pre-law, marketing, communications, journalism or a related field
  • Minimum GPA 3.0/4.0
