Job Summary

The Multimedia Communications Specialist is a dynamic and creative individual who knows how to effectively use words and visuals to tell engaging, dynamic stories. This person will be able to weave copy, sound bites and video b-roll together into masterful creative content that resonates with the intended audience across multiple digital channels in a variety of formats. This person will also take a leading role of HMSA’s social media efforts, including creating and posting content that forwards HMSA’s purpose, goals, brand and overall messaging.

In this hybrid role, the employee will use strong writing, editing, and social media savvy, combined with a strong background in video production and interactive design principles to create stories that share HMSA’s vision, activities and work being done to foster a healthier Hawaii. This position will work closely with digital newsroom, web and design teams to create educational, entertaining and engaging content via videos and digital assets for web, social media and other digital channels.

Priority Parking: Driving Required (50% or more of time will be spent outside of the office on location scouting, talent meetings, shoot coordination and actual filming of members, providers or group leaders for HMSA commercials, testimonials, training videos or other campaign, project or Executive requests, and on post-production sound work).

Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Creates original content that engages our target audience and supports HMSA’s business goals and objectives:
    • Write clear and compelling stories in HMSA’s brand voice.
    • Writes effective digital headlines and summaries that help attract audiences.
    • Creates engaging social media posts that attract audiences and encourage readers to interact with HMSA.
    • Creates and develops content for digital platforms, including but not limited to web, social media, HMSA’s blog, email and text messaging, that informs, educates and inspires.
    • Use the best tool (written, design, infographics, video, etc.) to tell the story in a way that connects with the target audience and is appropriate for the vehicle.
    • Create news and event-based content impacting all stakeholders, including text stories, photos/graphics, live streaming content, and social media elements.
    • Research, produce, write, shoot and edit in-house videos and livestreams.
    • Participate with teams internally and externally in the creation and distribution of content.
    • Work with videographer/editor to gather video assets, i.e. conduct on-camera interviews with stakeholders with an ear toward eliciting compelling sound bites, identify and direct videographers to shoot needed b-roll footage, conceive graphics.
    • Takes and edits basic photos and videos to create their own stories, and provides layout/design direction, as needed, to tell the story.
    • Provides packaging and presentation across all platforms, including mobile and other social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
    • Work with video editors to fine tune and optimize videos from pre-production to delivery.
    • Work closely with the Digital Newsroom, web and design teams to ensure design principles and brand elements are effectively translated into social media assets.
    • Work collaboratively with communications brand, social media, design and digital counterparts to help conceptualize and produce engaging digital content for HMSA channels.
  2. Manage production schedule and timelines: 
    • Help maintain production calendar for all projects and provide regular status updates to management.
    • Schedule and post assets to social media sites, such as Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and social livestream events.
    • Become a subject matter expert on HMSA Digital Platforms and apply that expertise to expand reach, engagement, and distribution of content.
    • Help create and maintain content plans for specific events, campaigns, and corporate priorities.
    • Track production schedules and assets, ensuring that established deadlines are met.
    • Actively communicate with teammates and managers.
    • Maintain proficiency and knowledge in latest trends, technology and best practices for digital video content.
    • Maintain proficiency and knowledge in latest trends and best practices for digital video content production and distribution on YouTube and other digital platforms.
  3. Research, Monitor and Analysis: 
    • Stay abreast of new video, social media and ecommerce developments and research best-in-class examples.
    • Analyze engagement on social media platforms and provide direction for optimizing content and videos.
    • Monitor real-time digital and social analytics across internal and external platforms. Provide recommendations based on analysis.
  4. Other Duties/Functions:
    • Perform all other miscellaneous responsibilities and duties as assigned.

      Minimum Qualifications
      1. Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years of related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and related work experience.
      2. Experience operating video cameras, tripods, lights and other equipment in a professional manner.
      3. Experience with writing for print, broadcast and online content.
      4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
      5. Excellent verbal and written presentation skills.
      6. Familiarity with social media tools.
      7. Ability to develop and manage project budgets.
      8. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusion.
      9. Experience creating and editing photos and videos using a software on a personal phone.
      10. Excellent judgment and journalistic integrity.
      11. Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects at a time.
      12. Excellent time-management and organizational skills.
      13. Intermediate computer skills/knowledge in the following, but not limited to:  Email (Outlook, etc.)., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
      14. Experience with video editing software, such as Apple’s Final Cut Pro or equivalent software.
      15. Ability to create videos from beginning to end.
      16. Requires safely operating an insured automobile for travel to off-site locations to conduct and accomplish business related activities.
      17. Must have valid driver’s license, access to an automobile with current license, registration and no-fault insurance.
