The American Lung Association has an excellent opportunity for a National Coordinator, Policy to join our incredible team. Working as a member of the Advocacy & Public Policy team, you will join an outstanding group of professionals dedicated to our mission: to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease through research, education, and advocacy.

In this role, you will be responsible for supporting the promotion of the American Lung Association’s national leadership in lung health and tobacco control policy. This person will be responsible for collaborating with staff to advance policy work regarding access to quality and affordable healthcare, analyzing coverage information on lung cancer screening and tobacco cessation policy, and writing policy materials and other documents as appropriate. This position is grant-funded.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Develop policy materials and draft other key campaign documents to advance access to quality and affordable healthcare in collaboration with staff across the Association
  • Analyze and disseminate coverage information related to lung cancer screening policy
  • Track state tobacco cessation coverage for Medicaid fee-for-service and managed care plans
  • Manage deliverables for a grant that provides technical assistance on tobacco cessation coverage issues to state public health programs, community–based organizations, and other stakeholders
  • Write and update factsheets, comment letters, web pages, and other American Lung Association documents as appropriate
  • Develop advocacy-related website and social media content in collaboration with Marketing and Communications team
  • Manage Lung Action Network activities, such as volunteer recruitment and event logistics, in conjunction with Patient Engagement team
  • Provide support for and complete other activities and projects as assigned
  • Serve on ALA’s regional and national workgroups and committees as requested.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, health policy or related field, or equivalent combination of education and work experience, required
  • One to two years of strong substantive work experience in health policy and/or tobacco control work
  • Ability to research and analyze health plans, federal and state statutes, policies, and legislation with attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with database programs
  • Ability to work independently, problem solve, thrive under pressure, perform multiple tasks, and meet deadlines
  • Team Player with a positive attitude
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends with some overnights required
  • Consistent with its mission, the American Lung Association maintains a smoke-free workplace; all employees must abstain from tobacco use in any form. Also, all employees are required to be fully vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus, unless approved for medical or religious exemption.
