The Progressive Policy Institute is seeking a National Political Director.

PPI is a nonprofit center-left think tank that has been promoting pragmatic center-left ideas for over 30 years in Washington, D.C. PPI was the main purveyor of policy innovations to Bill Clinton’s New Democrats — break-the-mold ideas that also migrated to Britain and other democratic countries around the world under the rubric of the “third way.” Today, PPI remains at the forefront of promoting pragmatic and responsible progressivism with a focus on center-left issues in areas such as economic growth, education reform, and regulatory reform.

An ideal candidate will be uniquely interested in a broad array of political ideas and issues, with prior experience working with Capitol Hill staff and stakeholder relations preferred.

Role responsibilities:

  • Prospect and engage with key stakeholders and organizations at the federal, and international level.
  • Promote white papers and PPI publications to national political and governmental players
  • Engage Capitol Hill on various key issues and ideas coming from PPI
  • Organize external events such as policy briefings and salon dinners
  • Assist daily operations of PPI’s outreach and engagement with communications team
  • Work closely with PPI leadership on short and long-term strategic planning
  • Strategize with the State and Local Political Director to advance PPI’s work across the country

Qualifications include:

  • Experience in engaging either congressional, state, or local officials and politicians on key policy areas
  • Strong organizational, verbal and writing skills
  • Unique ability to engage and persuade stakeholders on various issues
  • Ability to be a team player and to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Flexibility and dedication
  • Strong Interest in US politics and foreign policy
  • Intellectual curiosity and creative idea-making


  • Experience pitching and engaging successfully with stakeholders
  • Experience working with press or communications teams
  • Experience working with Capitol Hill staff
  • Knowledge of center-left leaning issues, and national leaders


  • Full-time position in Washington, D.C.
