Policy Analyst/Senior Policy Analyst, Inclusive Economy
Reports to: Vice President, Inclusive Economy; in the interim, this hire will report to Senior Vice President, Inclusive Growth

Summary
American Progress has an immediate opening for a Policy Analyst or Senior Policy Analyst with strong analytic skills and experience in a range of federal tax and fiscal policy issues. The position requires strong quantitative and writing skills; experience working with tax and economic data; and an interest in making compelling, evidence-based public policy arguments. The candidate should be meticulous and comfortable in a fast-paced environment and with rapid-response requests, as well as have a passion for advancing progressive economic policy through thoughtful new research. The candidate will contribute to the Inclusive Economy team’s efforts to promote an economy that works for all, led by robust public investments and a more equitable tax code.
The successful candidate will be guided by American Progress’ mission to improve the lives of all Americans through bold, progressive ideas, as well as strong leadership and concerted action, with the aim of not only changing the conversation, but changing the country. They will join a committed group of colleagues with extensive research expertise to strengthen American Progress’ policy and advocacy work in support of the organization’s five crosscutting priorities:

- Restoring social trust in democracy
- Advancing racial equity and justice
- Tackling climate change and environmental injustice
- Strengthening health
Responsibilities:
- Conduct and support research and analysis that advances more equitable and sustainable tax policies, including quantitative and qualitative analysis of the effects of fiscal policy proposals.
- Develop and contribute to the production of a variety of written products such as reports, issue briefs, and op-eds.
- Interface with American Progress communications and advocacy experts—including in Art, Government Affairs, Digital Strategy, and Press—to create maximally compelling, accessible, and engaging research and analysis to support policies or legislation that advance a more equitable tax code.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements and qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; an advanced degree or equivalent experience is a plus.
- This is not an entry-level position. At least three to four years of related experience is required for the Policy Analyst position; at least five years of related experience is required for the Senior Policy Analyst position.
- Strong quantitative skills and familiarity with a variety of federal tax policy issues.
- The ability to use quantitative data to make creative, compelling policy arguments.
- Data visualization skills and interest are a plus.
- Broad familiarity with fiscal and economic policy issues.
- Ability to explain complex policy ideas and data analysis clearly through written, visual, and verbal communications.
- Meticulousness, attention to detail, and ability to get up to speed quickly on a new policy area or research question.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well on a team.
- Political or legislative experience—or experience in the use of research and analysis for narrative building or advocacy—is a big plus.

The Policy Analyst position has a minimum salary of $61,000, and the Senior Policy Analyst position has a minimum salary of $68,000.
