Job summary

Establish Council as the leading professional organization in thinking and training on the practice of policy communication and corporate responsibility (e.g., risk and crisis communication, shareholder communication, CR strategies, annual CR reporting, writing about policy and regulation). Design and implement training for new and seasoned professionals on:

  • Core strategies, tactics, best practices and new approaches for persuasive written, oral and visual (presentation) communications; and
  • Relevant thought leadership and trends from these fields (e.g., corporate leadership and/or management best practices that would apply to communications and CR).

Principal functions

  • Lead Council’s policy communication and CR training programs:
    • Articulate a vision for these practice
    • Grow existing programs in number, variety, audience and attendance; develop and implement new programs, eventually implementing a national
    • Work with Marketing team members to market
    • Manage budgets and set goals for assigned programs. Grow revenue
  • Develop an in-house library of policy communication and CR resources:
    • Write best practice tip sheets, newsletter articles and web
    • Collect case studies and examples from
    • Conceive of and execute research projects on policy communications and CR best practices, strategies, trends and technology as standalone projects or in conjunction with members, the Foundation for Public Affairs or partner
  • Market functions and network:
    • Keep in regular contact with Council
    • Build and grow network of leading professionals from companies, trade associations, professional organizations, think tanks and other groups to draw on for subject matter expertise, speak at events and write thought leadership
    • Speak at or represent Council at member and industry
    • Work with Public Affairs Associate (fellow team member) to build and grow. dedicated networking groups associated with
    • Continually grow personal understanding of policy communication and CR best practices, trends and technologies. Stay current on activities of competitor

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant
  • Minimum 3-5 years direct communications and/or CR experience with proven results of efforts; familiarity with corporate and/or association public affairs
  • Understanding of policy-making and regulatory processes at local, state and federal level.
  • Established network of current communications/CR professionals, including trade associations and non-profit
  • Published writing (either on communications/CR or a specific policy issue).
  • Experience working successfully with senior-level executives and
  • Program management and event planning/consulting
  • Ability to travel 10 percent of the
