Instagram is seeking an experienced Policy Communications Manager supporting youth products, security and privacy.
The position requires a passion for Instagram, and candidates should demonstrate an ability to build and lead scalable proactive communications programs, with tangible results, working collaboratively with technical teams and policy teams. Excellent media and community relations, crisis communications, communications strategy, and content development skills are crucial.
Candidates must be strong writers and clear thinkers, with an excellent understanding of the security and privacy landscape for technology companies. The ability to stay calm under pressure is a must, as is a deep understanding of Instagram and our community. Candidates should excel at project management and problem solving while working collaboratively with executives and other stakeholders.
The ideal candidate will be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, be creative, flexible, happy to work in a fast-paced demanding environment.
Policy Communications Manager, Instagram Responsibilities
  • Lead proactive media programs and campaigns for Instagram’s exploration into products for younger users, as well as security and privacy initiatives
  • Build and manage deep relationships with the media, and engage with press, bloggers, opinion leaders, and the general public as an Instagram spokesperson
  • Develop press strategies around high profile issues and product launches in the US and internationally
  • Craft engaging pitches and story ideas around Instagram’s youth, security and privacy work
  • Develop and write a wide range of communications materials including press plans, pitches, blog posts, reactive statements, and briefing materials
  • Prepare and train spokespeople, and staff press briefings and speaking events
  • Counsel cross-functional partners in product, partnerships, data, community and other groups within the company on communications considerations around consumer initiatives
  • Collaborate with external PR agency teams to execute on policy press initiatives
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelors Degree in Journalism, Political Science, Communications or related field
  • 6+ years professional experience in communications or public relations
  • Have existing media and public policy relationships
  • Experience working with national, security, corporate, tech or business/marketing media, and developing social campaigns to achieve communications goals
  • Effective communications and decision-making skills along with project management skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in public policy or in the technology sector
  • Experience working autonomously in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
