Facebook is seeking an experienced Policy Communications Manager to build and execute proactive privacy campaigns, manage complex reactive communications, and serve as a trusted partner to our teams focused on privacy and data use. Candidates should be comfortable providing counsel to executives, working independently, escalating decisions promptly, and identifying both problems and solutions with minimal oversight. The right person for this role must have a strong interest in Facebook products, public affairs and technology overall. They will be skilled in building proactive communication strategies, maintain strong media relationships, possess excellent judgment in pressured situations and be confident in content development. Strong writing skills and experience with design or creative formats is strongly preferred.
Our team embraces critical thinkers who are as adept at providing background guidance to journalists as they are at managing communications strategies on a global scale. The ideal candidate can translate complex legal and policy issues in written and verbal communications, understand the inner workings of Facebook products and features, and motivate colleagues across time zones and functions.
Policy Communications Manager Responsibilities
  • Build and manage proactive communications campaigns and programs on privacy with consistently strong execution
  • Oversee product launches, press briefings, and media programs for privacy focused products, events and initiatives
  • Work with our global policy, legal, engineering, product and partnerships teams to build, understand and communicate corporate and product policies related to privacy
  • Manage inbound press inquiries on a range of issues with exceptional judgment
  • Develop and pitch stories about our privacy practices, product features, and policy priorities
  • Prepare messaging and other external materials such as blog posts and videos
Minimum Qualifications
  • 6+ years of policy communications experience, either agency or in-house
  • Professional experience in a related environment, e.g. technology company, government body, NGO or political environment
  • Experience writing messaging materials, and distilling complex policy or technology concepts into plain language
  • Experience working under pressure with deadlines and on complex, sensitives issues
  • Experience managing diverse cross-functional stakeholder relations in fast-paced and ambiguous environments, including working collaboratively with cross-functional groups including legal, public policy, and consumer marketing
  • Proven relationships with press and external stakeholders and experience organizing press briefings, media sessions and events
  • Experience managing crisis communications situations with thoughtful decision-making and effective internal and external coordination
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working on communications related to privacy technology and policy
  • Experience working on communications related to litigation and legislation
  • Media relationships with a diverse range of reporters and bloggers
