Facebook seeks a Policy Communications Manager to support a wide range of initiatives and programs for the Policy Communications Team. This role will provide communications support for the policy issues outlined in our Community Standards, working cross-functionally with teams at Facebook on content issues, with a specific focus on dangerous organizations, terrorism and law enforcement. The ideal candidate has strong media relation skills, experience working at the intersection of technology and social issues and is calm and level headed under pressure. Candidates should have a good understanding of the U.S. and global political landscape as well as a good understanding of technology issues, our policies and the social debate around our platforms.
Policy Communications Manager: Content and Dangerous Organizations Responsibilities
  • Lead communications activities on content policy issues related to dangerous organizations, terrorism and law enforcement
  • Manage in-bound press inquiries on a range of issues related to Facebook’s content policies
  • Develop and create a wide range of communications materials including blog posts, communications plans, statements, briefing materials for executives and more
  • Develop and pitch stories related to Facebook’s content policies and procedures
  • Support company launches and announcements
  • Work with our global Comms, Policy, Legal, Product, Partnership, and Operations teams to build, understand and communicate on policies and that support and protect our community and reputation
  • Create programs that help educate the press, policy makers and groups on how Facebook works
  • Develop proactive campaigns to educate new and existing users on issues related to content
  • Limited agency management will be required
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, liberal arts, or social sciences
  • 10+ years of communications or related experience
  • Experience of working under pressure with deadlines and on complex, sensitives issues
  • Experience in public policy, public affairs, crisis communications or issues management
  • Experience creating messaging materials, and working collaboratively with cross-functional groups including Legal, Public Policy, Marketing, and Research
Preferred Qualifications
  • 14+ years of relevant work experience
  • Experience distilling complex policy or technology concepts into plain language
  • Experience managing cross-functional stakeholder relations in fast-paced and ambiguous environments
  • PR Agency or in-house experience preferred
