HOW YOU’LL HELP US KEEP CLIMBING (OVERVIEW & KEY RESPONSIBILITIES)

The Policy Director of Government Affairs must be a strategic, proactive advocate with a proven track record of understanding and articulating complicated policy issues before the federal government. This leader will have responsibility for policy analysis, development, and advocacy before the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT). The successful candidate must have regulatory policy experience in aviation, political acumen, and the ability to successfully develop and identify the company’s federal policy priorities by working collaboratively with the company’s business units.
 
The successful candidate must possess strong analytical and writing skills, the ability to analyze and communicate – both verbally and in writing – complex policy issues and have established relationships within the Federal Aviation Administration and Department of Transportation.  Substantive knowledge of FAA regulatory policy issues, including Air Traffic Control (ATC), Airports, Aviation Safety, Slot management, International Affairs and the Environment are necessary.  Knowledge of DOT consumer regulatory policy as well as the Congressional Committees that oversee aviation issues are a plus. 
 
The selected individual will work regularly with senior executives throughout the company to develop, coordinate, and execute strategy in line with the company’s objectives.
 
The top candidate must have experience working well in teams and thriving in a fast paced and collaborative environment.  The top candidate will also have experience going above and beyond at their work. 

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED (MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS)

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Ability to analyze and articulate complex regulatory policy issues
  • Strong writing and verbal communication skills
  • Experience at the FAA, DOT, and/or Congressional Committee of jurisdiction 
  • Self-starter
  • Embrace diverse people, thinking and styles
  • A desire to work in a highly collaborative team environment
  • Willingness to go above and beyond 
  • Where permitted by applicable law, must have received or be willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccine by date of hire to be considered for U.S.-based job, if not currently employed by Delta Air Lines, Inc.

  • An advanced degree such as M.P.P., M.A., J.D., or M.B.A. is desirable
