The National Marine Manufacturers Association is seeking a Western States Policy and Engagement Manager to support our Government Relations department. The NMMA is the principal trade association in the U.S. and Canada representing the manufacturers of recreational boats and marine products.
This exciting new position supports the work of NMMA’s advocacy and grassroots activities on behalf of the recreational boating industry for the western geographical region, including: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming. This position monitors and responds to state legislative and regulatory activity impacting the boating and outdoor recreation industry, coordinates with industry members for grassroots and PAC engagement, builds and participates in coalitions representing an array of outdoor activities, and assists the federal policy team in mobilizing assets in key Congressional districts.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Build and maintain relationships with governors, state legislators, related agencies and staff to promote policy priorities of boating industry.
Analyze, monitor and respond to state legislative and regulatory matters impacting boating.
Mobilize political assets in key districts to engage in Congressional plant tours, district meetings, and political fundraisers.
Coordinate with communications, public affairs and marketing staff in development and execution of grassroots strategy.
Draft testimony, letters, legislative analyses and advocacy materials for distribution to membership.
Represent industry interests in coalitions and at state capitols, conferences, and meetings.
Manage contract lobbyists who may be hired to focus on a specific issue
Knowledge and interest in public policy and grassroots strategies.
Previous policy experience with grassroots, campaign and/or fundraising preferred.
Excellent speaking and writing skills.
Proven record of working in coalitions
Self-starter, with affinity for managing multiple tasks and working in a remote but fast-pace environment.
Ability to travel throughout western region, occasionally with little notice.
Minimum credentials/experience Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in related field
Three to five years relevant campaign, association or political experience
