Founded in 1966, UPROSE is an intergenerational, BIWOC-led, internationally recognized community organization. UPROSE works at the intersection of racial justice and climate change through community-based planning and research, policy advocacy, popular education, organizing, artistic expression, and youth leadership development.

This is a full-time position that provides a benefits package and professional development opportunities. Salary commensurate with experience.   • Report directly to the Executive Director;
  • Understand local, state, and federal clean energy policy
  • Support creation, advocacy, and implementation of clean energy policies & regulations;
  • Advocate and incorporate Just Transition principles in policy;
  • Engage in community-based energy planning efforts to identify local community priorities;
  • Support community education workshops around renewable energy project benefits and opportunities, Energy Democracy and Just Transition;
  • Effectively collaborate with project partners and coalition members in regards to legal, financial, and engineering topics related to centering equity & environmental justice in clean energy policy;
  • Understand and integrate ongoing policy campaigns and coalition building efforts aimed at moving towards 100% renewables into projects and project development processes;
  • Represent the organization at project development calls;
  • Help carry out media strategies to raise awareness about issues and build support for our organizing as needed;
  • Contribute to grant-writing as needed to support project development

Job requirements:

  • Demonstrated commitment to working for environmental, social, and climate justice;
  • Comprehensive understanding of policy and public processes;
  • Minimum of 1-2 years professional experience relevant to the energy policy, city and community planning and/or project management;
  • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team-setting;
  • Outstanding personal organization, time management, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask;
  • Knowledge of basic computer applications, such as Microsoft, Google, and Adobe applications;
  • Excellent written/oral communications skills and comfortable giving public presentations;
  • Good sense of humor

Preferred requirements:

  • Experience working with diverse project partners in public, private, and non-profit sectors
  • Understanding of New York energy systems and policy
  • Spanish/English bilingual proficiency preferred

Salary based on experience: $60,000-$65,000
