Policy Research and Data Analyst

Primary Objective:

Conduct policy-related research, data analysis, and writing related to health centers. The analyst will be responsible for conducting primary and applying secondary research/data analysis to inform NACHC’s policy and technical assistance strategies, as well as to document health centers’ capacity to improve access to high-quality, efficient, and affordable health care. S/he/they will also work closely with NACHC policy and other staff.

Essential Functions:

  • Conduct data analyses and provide analytic support across NACHC’s Public Policy and Research Division, and other NACHC divisions as needed. Analyze health center program data and other data sets to monitor changes in health center capacity; identify needs; trend future growth and capacity needs; estimate the impact of policy and program changes on health centers, their patients, and their communities; and/or other analyses as needed.
  • Concisely translate findings from data analyses into various resources for diverse audiences. This includes authoring or co-authoring issue briefs, reports, fact sheets, and other resources (including potentially peer review articles) for a wide-range of audiences. Lead the development of multiple widely disseminated publications annually.
  • Think creatively about how to elevate health centers using existing data as well as opportunities to gather more data to better inform general audience about health centers.
  • Plan and carry out publication and resource dissemination activities to a targeted or wide audience in collaboration with NACHC’s Communications Division and advocacy team. This includes managing content on the NACHC Research Department webpage.
  • Remain up-to-date about NACHC policy priorities and provide analytic/research support around these needs. Ensure needs are proactively met to the extent possible.
  • Respond to internal and external requests for data and information on health centers.
  • Review and stay up-to-date on relevant literature/research.
  • As needed, support the development of and administer survey instruments and analyze results.
  • Organize, conduct, and/or participate in workshops, education sessions, and poster programs at NACHC and other conferences.
  • Support the Director of Policy Research in their collaborations with external partners on joint projects.
  • Other projects and tasks as assigned.
  • Occasional travel.

Qualifications for the Position: 

  • Master’s degree in public health, public policy, or related field preferred.
  • 3 years of data-driven research experience, particularly in health policy.
  • Strong quantitative research skills. Experience working with government health databases and survey data, statistical modeling, research methods and research design.
  • Proven ability to concisely and visually package data analyses in a policy context with minimal guidance, as well as synthesize and effectively communicate complex issues.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Access, and a data analysis application (such as SAS, SPSS, r, or Stata).
  • Strong written communication skills and ability to produce written products in short timeframe with little supervision.
  • Ability to accomplish multiple short- and long-term work activities independently and under tight deadlines.
