Policy Strategist -Solar and Storage Development

Ameresco seeks an individual with a background with renewable energy policy and regulations, as well as strong leadership and communication skills to advance solar and storage legislation and regulations to drive market development and ameliorate the barriers to deployment across the regions in which we operate. This individual will represent Ameresco in joint industry and utility working groups, and other related stakeholder groups.
Draft memoranda, legislative testimony, and regulatory filings based on analysis and input from development team;
Regulatory and legislative bill tracking and preparation of summary reports to the development team;
Manage and track challenges with interconnection issues across portfolio and advocate for changes to resolve major obstacles through various interconnection proceedings, stakeholder working groups, forums and legislative advocacy;
Creation and maintenance of databases on clean energy developments and trends, ongoing monitoring of all policy and regulatory activity in key markets
Participate in coordination calls with representatives of the respective state utility commissions, state energy agencies, utilities, legislature, and governor’s office;
Responding promptly and accurately to requests for information from development team on policies and regulations promptly and accurately;
Build relationships with industry, utilities, legislators, utility commissioners, industry associations, consultants and other stakeholders;
Support the Director of Policy and Strategy in preparing public testimony, presentations, meeting materials, and briefings synthesizing emerging policy and regulatory topics;
Support the Policy Team, including coordination of meetings, event-planning and outreach, scheduling, lobbying registrations, and other support as needed
Conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis on trends and data on solar and storage, literature reviews, policy research, and other original research as needed;
Assist with development of policy and regulatory updates and broader strategy.
Support the preparation and dissemination of original oral and written testimony in regulatory dockets related to solar, storage, DER interconnection, grid modernization, and other related topics; and
Perform other duties as required by management.
Bachelor’s or Advanced degree in Public Policy, Business Administration, Environmental Law, or related disciplines, including technical.
Minimum of 5 years of experience with renewable energy policy and regulations from past work with DER developer, electric utility or industry associations, or related field.
Excellent verbal and written skills required.
Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and business relationships.
Passionate about renewable energy and sustainability.
Self-starter that takes initiative.
Proven ability to gather, validate, and analyze quantitative and qualitative data and information.
Knowledge of market development challenges and opportunities for solar and storage, and how technical and non-technical interconnection policies and practices affect them.
Proven ability to read and understand complex energy regulations and to summarize the key parts of the regulations that affect opportunities and risks for development.
Proven experience drafting language for oral and written testimony in regulatory dockets or solar policy and programs.
Advanced proficiency with MS Office Suite, including Excel.
The position may require 30% travel as in person meetings resume
Valid Drivers’ License issued by state of residence and in good standing.
Ability to work remotely.
