GENERAL SUMMARY: Under the general supervision and direction of assigned attorney(s), advisor(s) or practice management, and following prescribed department, office and firm procedures, the Political Compliance Specialist is responsible for assisting in managing day-to-day compliance issues for clients of the firm. The Political Compliance Specialist will ideally have a background with campaign finance, lobbying disclosure, pay-to-play, state and local lobbying laws, and state campaign finance issues. The Political Compliance Specialist is expected to perform all responsibilities with a commitment to providing superior service to the firm’s attorneys, advisors and staff, and maintaining an atmosphere of teamwork and continuous improvement. Above all, the Political Compliance Specialist must fulfill the needs of the firm in a manner which is consistent with the Firm’s Core Values.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Duties are performed throughout every work day, as necessary):

  • Research and respond to client requests as needed
  • Prepare and file lobbying registration and disclosure reports at the federal, state, and local levels
  • Manage multiple PACs on a day to day basis:
    • Maintain PAC balances
    • Maintain compliance records
    • Submit any state required PAC filings in a timely manner
    • Submit federal PAC filings in a timely manner
    • Resolve any inconsistencies of PAC balances or filings
    • Assist clients as needed with solicitations and PAC data reports
  • Draft memoranda, papers, and letters for clients
  • Draft alerts and other information updates to be published online
  • Research various topics of importance to clients on campaign finance and lobbying matters
  • Monitor political contributions of clients to ensure compliance with federal, state and local laws
  • Assume other responsibilities as requested in support of the practice group’s goals and objectives

 ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Ability to read, write and speak English
  • Understanding of political and legislative processes
  • Must be a self-starter able to operate independently
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Proficiency in Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize among competing tasks under pressure and time constraints
  • Good judgment and a strong sense of responsibility, integrity, and loyalty
  • Strong research and writing skills

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS/JOB EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum of two years of experience in maintaining compliance with lobbying disclosure (either House or Senate or both) and FEC filings for PAC (or campaign committee)
  • Familiarity with state/local lobbying requirements and reporting and pay-to-play is a plus
  • Political or campaign experience a plus, but not required
