Here’s what you would be doing day-to-day:

  • Strategically direct evolution of client portfolio, including establishing a clear vision for 1-2 core practice areas and criteria for partnerships
  • Establish and maintain relationships with client CEO/executive leadership
  • Serve as chief client counselor across personal portfolio of strategic accounts (4-5 core accounts at a time)
  • Maintain visibility, support and counsel across a broader portfolio of accounts
  • Co-steer Mission North’s new business pipeline
  • Lead new business efforts and actively contribute to ongoing evolution of company’s sales materials with an eye on delighting clients
  • Develop, innovate and codify our client service system(s) to ensure exceptional service levels and results
  • Develop and strengthen sphere of influence via regular networking with external audiences, including peers, entrepreneurs, partners and VCs
  • Evangelize company ideas, team and client results via public speaking, contributed articles, blog posts, etc.
  • Influence ongoing evolution and activation of company core values, vision, mission and rules of engagement
  • Regularly engage with staff at all levels to constantly strengthen our culture and improve collective happiness
  • Mentor, advise and/or support senior staff in our leadership style
  • Work closely with office GM to strategically direct account staffing and forecasting with an eye on maintaining happy team members and clients

Qualifications include:

  • Minimum of 12-15 years of agency or equivalent experience, including directing account teams and practice areas
  • Ability and interest in helping guide the agency’s growth as a member of the executive steering committee:
          – Cultivate and/or evaluate new business leads, and successfully pitch new business
          – Identify and pursue opportunities to grow current client relationships
          – Set up account staff teams to deliver on client needs in a cost effective manner
          – Contribute to and sustain a fun, collegial team environment
  • In-depth knowledge of at least two of our client market sectors served by our San Francisco office, including a nuanced understanding of the media relevant to the sector(s), the key trends, and companies currently driving innovation and growth from within:
          – Growth (Retail/Marketing/Sales tech)
          – Trust (Cyber Security)
          – Fintech
          – Life Sciences
          – Future of Work
          – VC
          – Future Stack
  • Comfort and ability in maintaining and deepening relationships with senior client contacts (CEOs and other C-suite members) by serving as direct senior counsel
  • Proven ability to develop, direct and execute highly strategic communications programs that blend PR, content marketing, social media and analytics
  • Track record in managing/mentoring junior team members
  • Exceptional content development skills, spanning writing and conceptual design of new media such as infographics, video, surveys, etc.
  • Extensive experience helping disruptive technology companies develop compelling messaging, storylines and thought leadership platforms
  • Reference-able relationships with top-tier trade media and bloggers, vertical market media, national and local business media
  • Ability to travel to and from client/new business meetings as appropriate
