Overview

The Principal Program Lead for Government Relations position is a full-time position responsible for supporting the development and execution of Chick-fil-A’s government relations strategy and educating CFA leaders, staff and Operators on policy trends and developments.

The role will (1) work closely with the Director of Chick-fil-A’s government relations to develop and implement Chick-fil-A’s government relations strategy; (2) identify legislative activity of interest to Chick-fil-A and partner with Chick-fil-A business leaders to analyze and understand impacts; (3) lead meetings with government officials and their staff to provide feedback about legislative proposals, raise awareness about important issues, develop policy initiatives and discuss issues facing the restaurant and franchise industries; (4) manage outside consultants as well as memberships with trade associations and think tanks; (5) initiate relationship building opportunities and host hospitality events with key government officials, trade associations, and other partners for Chick-fil-A; (6) update Chick-fil-A business leaders on political and policy trends and developments (internal regular reports, briefings, town halls, lunch and learns); (7) prepare and coach Chick-fil-A staff and Operators on interactions with government officials as needed, (8) field requests from government officials, including requests for political contributions, government engagement and event participation; (9) provide advice, research and strategic direction for additional government relations and regulatory matters as needed.

Responsibilities

· Assist in the strategy development and execution of Chick-fil-A’s government relations strategy with key federal, state, and local elected and appointed government officials consistent with Chick-fil-A business priorities and impact
· Manage outside consultants as well as memberships with think tanks, trade associations and other partners
· Identify legislative proposals and trends of interest to Chick-fil-A and partner with Chick-fil-A business leaders to analyze and understand the impacts
· Lead meetings with government officials and their staff to provide feedback about legislative proposals, raise awareness about important issues, develop policy initiatives and discuss issues facing the restaurant and franchise industries while developing and maintaining positive relationships;
·  Initiate relationship building opportunities and hospitality events with key government officials, trade associations, and other relevant partners for Chick-fil-A
·  Update Chick-fil-A business leaders on political and policy trends and developments (internal regular reports, briefings, town halls, lunch and learns); support Chick-fil-A Operators with political briefings, insights and relationship building meetings in their local markets
·  Prepare and coach Chick-fil-A staff and Operators on interactions with government officials as needed, including new restaurant opening events and outreach, government outreach related to real estate site development, etc
·  Field requests from government officials, including requests for political contributions, government engagement and event participation
·  Provide advice, research and strategic direction on additional government relations matters as needed
·  Represent Chick-fil-A at national meetings, industry gatherings, and other events
·  Serve on cross-functional teams and attend business meetings to provide advice and strategic direction to business partners on a wide variety of subjects across the organization

Minimum Qualifications

· 10 years of government relations experience

Preferred Qualifications

· Experience in government relations across multiple corporate entities or government agencies under a single or related governance structure
· Experience leading or executing an in-house government relations function to support business interests
· Experience as senior staff to federal or state government appointed or elected officials
· Familiar with federal, state and local legislative and regulatory policymaking processes
· Familiar with government policy issues that impact key business activities (e.g. taxes)
· Familiar with ethics and compliance responsibilities related to government advocacy
· Ability to take initiative and see projects through to completion
· Highly collaborative with the ability to build strong relationships with government officials, business leaders, franchisees, and support staff
· Strong time management skills that enable thoughtful work on a variety of projects
· Strong writing and editing skills
