The Coordinator, State and Local Legislative Affairs, reports to the Director of Legislative Affairs & State and Local Government Relations within the Corporate Government Relations organization and is based at the Corporate Headquarters in Falls Church, VA. The Coordinator is responsible for supporting the achievement of state and local legislative goals set forth by Northrop Grumman. This is accomplished through internal and external research, strategy development, organization, communications, and outreach. The Coordinator will be responsible for tracking state legislation and regulations, and updating internal stakeholders on legislative and regulatory developments. The individual will also attend internal meetings / briefings in order to be fully informed on various company issues. In addition the individual will be attending external meetings to develop relationships and stay up to date on developments that will affect the company. The individual will also be assisting with coordinating visits by state and local officials and their staffs to company facilities and events. In addition the individual will provide support to the Director and Managers, assisting with presentations, communications, and briefings used to update company executives. Travel will be required. Willingness to be a team player, attention to detail, strong organizational, communications, and interpersonal skills is essential.
•An understanding and demonstrated knowledge of state and local legislative process is required. This includes exposure to broad-based issues including the legislative and political process and environment, and an understanding of the factors affecting state and local government policy developments.
•The ability to analyze and organize a broad range of issues is key, as is strategic thinking.
•The successful candidate is a self starter with integrity, a willingness to learn, and a desire to move into an state advocacy role.
•Individual needs to possess a professional presence for interacting with public policy decision makers, staff, and external audiences.
•Must be flexible and demonstrate judgment/decision-making skills, and political acumen.
• A strong commitment and ability to work cooperatively in a team environment is paramount. Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills, as well as project management, analytical, planning, presentation and interpersonal skills are required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Administration, Public Policy, law, business or related field and a minimum of 6 years related experience; or a Masters with 4 years experience.
