Facebook is looking for an analytical thinker, particularly with experience in policy, law, government, media, or technology, to join our Content Policy team. The team’s mission is to create and communicate rules for how our products may be used by people and publishers on Facebook and its family of applications. This person will primarily support the News Feed & Stories team.

The position will focus on policy development and providing policy guidance around the development of new products designed to improve the personalized experience of Facebook users on News Feed and with Stories. Candidates must be able to apply complex, evolving frameworks to new and innovative products and initiatives and make difficult decisions, including under time pressure. Candidates also must develop a deep understanding of algorithmic ranking and the benefits and risks it creates. You will be responsible for understanding our Community Standards and other policies, and also helping develop and refine specific principles and policies focused on News Feed, Stories, algorithmic ranking, and content distribution.

The ideal candidate will be able to critically analyze and communicate the costs and benefits of refinements to these policies and principles, make recommendations about how to apply the policies to specific products, and have a point of view. Most importantly, the ideal candidate will be able to work collaboratively with the product teams not just to identify potential problems, but also to solve those problems and bring improved products to our users. You should be passionate about the services we provide, the people that we serve, and the policy questions that we face.


PRODUCT POLICY MANAGER, NEWSFEED AND STORIES RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Review global products, features, and initiatives to provide practical counsel and strategies across multiple jurisdiction.
  • Collaborate with product partners to help build and refine products that meet the goals of the Product and Policy teams.
  • Help develop and refine principles and policies related to content distribution on Facebook products.
  • Build relationships with and understand the perspectives of partners on internal teams, such as Public Policy, Engineering, Product Management, Communications, Marketing, Partnerships, Legal, and Operations.
  • Act as a global escalation point of contact and manage internal communications for policy issues.
  • Help articulate policy philosophy, launches, and product changes to relevant parties, including management, operations, and other internal and external stakeholders.
  • Work with Facebook’s Public Policy team, as well as external stakeholders, to monitor the global environment for policy issues that impact News Feed and Stories.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Policy, Law, Media, Science, Engineering, Technology, or related field of study.
  • 8+ years of relevant work experience in technology, policy, law, media, academia, science, engineering, not-for-profit, or government, with an emphasis on platforms and technology, content delivery and consumption, or online content moderation.
  • Experience with international issues.
  • Proven communication skills.
  • Demonstrates analytical-thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working cross-functionally and consensus-building, including managing multi-stakeholder projects.
  • Demonstrated experience with regularly handling and prioritizing multiple complex projects.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Advanced degree in public policy or law.
  • Experience working or studying outside of the United States, or focused on international issues from the United States.
  • Experience working in or with the technology industry, especially around issues of online expression and content moderation.
  • Experience handling or analyzing policy issues in any field.
  • Understanding of Facebook products and principles.
