This position contributes to Starbucks success by supporting the government affairs team in the development of initiatives, policies, and programs, related to public policy and government affairs. This position contributes to the success of the team by leading organizational support and supporting strategy, execution, events, and special projects. This role requires a high level of organization, excellent writing and communication skills. A successful candidate thrives in a complex and dynamic work environment. This individual should have an interest in public policy and government affairs and be a team player with an excellent work ethic. Models and acts in accordance with Starbucks guiding principles.


As a project manager, you will be…

  • Performing core project management duties for the government affairs team at large. This includes guiding multiple projects, with differing timelines and objectives, through development and execution; assisting in the development of budgets, timelines and schedules, communication planning, execution, and sustainment.
  • Overseeing tactical planning and day-to-day management of projects within the global social impact and public policy portfolio, guiding key program events and meetings.
  • Working with the team to set targets and deadlines, develop plans, measure results and improve process. Consulting with senior management to present data, propose solutions and identify opportunities for improvement and efficiency.
  • Support the response to inquiries from policymakers and external partners that relate to public policy and government affairs matters
  • Provide organizational leadership to external consultants including, helping to on-board, guiding regular check-ins, and manage information gathering and tracking
  • Understanding and navigating the intricacies of the business, communities Starbucks serves, government, and non-profit interests.
  • Collaborating with internal and external business partners to manage effective cross-functional working groups, regular communication cadence, and project follow up and deliverables in a timely manner.
  • Develop a deep understanding of initiatives within global social impact and public policy and the broader public affairs portfolio; supporting projects with a clear understanding of business context
  • Manage the organization and tracking of public policy programs and data, maintaining systems and procedures to efficiently execute goals, events, and meetings

We’d love to hear from people with:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred in political science, public policy, communications, or a related field
  • Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Practiced facilitator with excellent interpersonal and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge and experience in working with policymakers and influencers.
  • Ability to work well independently and with others.
  • Self-starter with excellent judgement and high integrity.
  • Skilled in use and business computer applications (e.g. Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Years of experience in specific field or utilizing designated skills: At least 3+ years diversified experience in public policy, preferably in government or corporate environment
