Job Summary:
The overall purpose of this postion is to facilitate activities of the IEEE-SA public affairs and government engagement programs. This position works with the Public Affairs and Communications teams on policy-related and social impact aspects relevant to standards, technology and regulatory issues, stakeholder outreach and engagement, public affairs, government engagement programs/event coordination, and research and reporting on outcomes of efforts. The position is responsible for a portfolio of public affairs activities, supporting the creation of messaging materials, supporting the development of third party and policymaker outreach materials, supporting research, and writing on relevant issues. The incumbent will be detail-oriented and results focused in a fast-paced environment and are adept at understanding complex public affairs/policy challenges relative to standards and technology.
The position reports to the Public Affairs Senior Manager, and coordinates with the leadership structures of the respective programs and initiatives promoted. The position has no direct reports.


Key Responsibilities:
Specific duties include but not limited to:

Program Management
•    Supports the development, implementation, and oversight of public affairs and relations programs that support business objectives
•    Liaises with IEEE-SA professional staff and volunteers to proactively identify and implement concepts that address priorities, as assigned
•    Maintains local contacts and positive relations with public affairs representatives
•    Develops, writes, and distributes releases, advisories, social media posts, and other information for distribution to the public and media
•    Drafts a variety of documents from speeches to presentation decks
•    Ensure overall quality of government affairs artifacts to meet all directives, guidelines, and procedures
•    Support the compilation and development of statistics and outcome/results reports regarding marketing communications and public affairs indicators

Financial and Risk Management

•    Contributes to unit’s annual budget development and monthly forecasting
•    Responsible for timely and accurate expense reports
•    Takes risk management and mitigation measures into account, as necessary

Human Capital Engagement
•    Engages with peers and senior leadership, as well as governance leadership of the IEEE-SA
•    Engages with outsourced resources
•    Builds relationships with colleagues and stakeholders to help ensure successful implementation of campaigns and programs


 Education and Experience:
•    Bachelor’s degree in International Affairs, Communications, Political Science, Journalism, English, or related field
•    Minimum of 5 years of full-time working in public affairs or policy, preferably globally
•    Experience in the full spectrum of an integrated communications plan, including directly working with websites, social media, and content creation
•    Experience with public affairs, public relations, and communication processes, protocols and best practices
•    Experience with the public policy community, including think tanks, academics, policy advocates/activists, trade associations, and other NGOs, preferably for a technology company

Skills & Other Requirements:

•    Familiarity with budget development and forecasting, as well as with internal procurement processes
•    Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, and project management skills
•    Excellent presentation and facilitation skills
•    Excellent verbal and written communication skills
•    Capable of building relationships internally and navigating through formal and informal structures
•    Ability to persuade others and gain support and commitment from them
•    Strong organizational skills; Ability to tackle multiple tasks and assignments simultaneously and maintain balance in high-pressure work settings
•    Detail oriented and success driven
•    Advance knowledge and use of Microsoft suite
•    Moderate global travel required; Valid travel credentials e.g. passport
