SUMMARY

Report to and assist Vice President of Public Affairs with regulatory and advocacy efforts in the Michigan Legislature, the Michigan Liquor Control Commission, and other government agencies focusing on cannabis, non-alcoholic beverages, and grassroots advocacy.

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
• Become a subject matter expert on Cannabis regulation and educate members in the area.
• Monitor and maintain a database on all legislation and regulatory action related to marijuana.
• Liaison with Michigan Cannabis Regulatory Agency and build coalitions amongst cannabis industry groups.
• Assist members in navigating the licensing and regulatory process at the Cannabis Regulatory Agency.
• Coordinate advocacy efforts on cannabis related legislation and regulation.
• Become a subject matter expert on non-alcoholic beverage regulation and educate members in the area.
• Monitor and maintain a database on all legislation and regulatory action related to non-alcoholic beverages.
• Assist members with navigating the regulatory framework of distribution of non-alcoholic beverages to retailers licensed by the Michigan Liquor Control Commission.
• Assist members with the review of non-alcoholic beverage distribution agreements with suppliers.
• Coordinate advocacy efforts on non-alcoholic beverage related legislation and regulation.
• Assist in the development of and implement the grassroots advocacy plan.
• Coordinate and initiate member participation in local legislative fundraising events, including attending events as directed by the Vice President of Public Affairs.
• Coordinate, initiate, and track member warehouse tours for all new legislators, including attending tours as directed by the Vice President of Public Affairs.
• Assist Vice President of Public Affairs with advocacy efforts in the Michigan Legislature.
• Assist Vice President of Public Affairs with regulatory matters at the Michigan Liquor Control Commission.
• Monitor and maintain a database on all legislation and regulatory action related to alcoholic beverages.
• Assist the Vice President of Public Affairs with the creation and management of the legislative candidate questionnaire.
QUALIFICATIONS
• This job requires a bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in communications, public relations, or related field.
• A minimum of one to three years of public relations related experience.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments.
• Ability to meet deadlines and work well under pressure.
• Ability to present in front of clients, customers, and the public.
• Ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment.
• Ability to use considerable initiative, think independently, and exercise sound judgment.
• Experience in a PC-based Windows operating system and Microsoft Office Suite environment (word processing, spreadsheets, video teleconferencing, presentations, and email).
